Not even storms could ruin Fishing on Orfű 2019
Fishing on Orfű 2019. An event where no one gets left out of the fun, despite the mosquitoes, contaminated water or the weather. FOO was sold out for the third year in a row.
Panorama Camp gives a home to Fishing on Orfű festival, only about 15 kilometres from Pécs, in the heart of Baranya county. The festival was four days long, and while the weather was not always friends with the festival-goers, they sure did not let the storms and rains ruin their fun. Some people even drank from a spring that had contaminated water and got sick.
The festival came to life for the 11th year, and was sold out for the third year in a row this year. The festival is a favourite of many, and they not only come to see their beloved artists perform, but simply to enjoy the buzzing atmosphere and to spend time with old friends and make new ones. Many are already counting down the days until they can return to their favorite place next year.
I have already reported about the many programs – for children and families as well – the tours around the lake, gourmet, and wine and beer tasting in a previous article.
As I have mentioned, the weather had not been kind to the party-goers. On the first and last days, the heavens decided to bless the rains down on us, and the two days in between were scorching hot.
The first day it started raining around 10 PM and proceeded to pour down for over two hours, before finally reducing to a drizzle. Everyone was worried that their highly awaited concerts were going to be cancelled, many had already gone home. Finally, a few minutes before 1 AM came the announcement on Facebook: the concerts would still happen after a short soundcheck and a two-hour delay. Despite the whole camp being a mud bath, the atmosphere of the remaining concerts was electric. People slid down and fell in the mud during the Esti Kornél concert, but just jumped back up to their feet and danced and sang along to their favourite songs, covered in mud from head to toe.
On the second day the concerts started earlier, as campers had already put their tents up the previous day and did not have to settle in. Well-known names, such as Kiscsillag and Vadfruttik, took over the Csavargó big stage and kept the party going.
The festival has nine stages, one of which is right on the lake, so people can enjoy a dip in the cooling water while listening to an acoustic set. Another is hidden in the forest at the camping site. One would think that the shadows of the trees would shelter us from the hot summer weather, right? Well not on the third day, as Lázár Tesók took the stage in the forest, and drew in such a big crowd, that it barely fit, and the body heat of the many people soon warmed up the place.
The last day of the festival came sooner than some would have liked, and with the last day, came a massive storm.
It started raining at around 7 PM and did not stop until the next day. Many people tried to take shelter wherever they could: in the Big tent, in the bathrooms, under any roof they could find. Others decided to go home. The more experienced campers had their raincoats nearby and continued to party, while others managed to get trash bags and put those on in hopes of not getting soaked. The concerts proceeded as planned, despite the weather, and the vast crowds danced as one in the pouring rain.
The festival always invites its performers, but they also offered up-and-coming artists a chance to broaden their audience for the second time this year: the winners (solo/duos and bands) of the second Big Fishing-Talent search gave concerts on two separate stages.
The videos of all the concerts will be available on the festival’s YouTube channel, meanwhile, check out the archives of previous concerts HERE.
And you know what they say, a picture says a thousand words, so if you are not already convinced that you need to be there next year, here are so more photos:
