Many interested in Hungarian family support model, says state secretary
The demographic conference in Budapest attracted a large number of foreign participants indicating that many are curious about the Hungarian family support model, the state secretary for family and youth affairs told public Kossuth radio on Sunday.
The 3rd Budapest Demographic Summit’s role was to address the greatest challenge of our times, the demographic situation, Katalin Novák said.
“It is about who we are going to be, how many of us there will be, and how we are going to live in Europe,” she said.
Speakers who addressed the two-day summit arrived from 20 countries around the world, and they shared the position that the right aspect of approaching the issue of demography is family, Novák said.
“Supporting families should not be a government’s private affair,” she said.
The government must play a substantial role in supporting families, Novák said, adding that it also needed “allies” such as the churches and family organisations, as well as actors in the media and the arts, and the scientific and public life.
