Curious case of Hungarian coffee: Why is it not hot?
Coffee is a part of everybody’s morning ritual. It is as essential as showering or brushing your teeth, and yet everybody has a different coffee ritual. Some people like it with sugar, some do not, milk or no milk, hot or cold. Personally, I prefer a cold brew, but once in a while, I do enjoy an Americano.
But for some reason, I have not seen a single café in my vicinity that has managed to nail Americano, there is always something missing. However, for a while, I have been dealing with a much bigger problem than less water in my Americano, and that includes all members of the hot coffee group. There is no hot coffee around here. There is Cappuccino and Espresso and Flat White, all hot drinks that are not hot? Instead, what we get is Room Temperature Hot Coffee, and that is the paradox of my coffee routine.
Now, I am not commenting on the Starbucks and all other coffee chains of the world currently serving you mass-produced coffee. I am talking about your local coffee place, the one that served the “Best Coffee in the World”, the ones that know your order by heart and do not need to ask for your name just to spell it wrong.

I usually get coffee at the café at the university, and it is not the fanciest place in the world, so I did not think much of it at first. But then I started hearing complaints from people around me and visited other places. I even went to New York Café, the big one at Blaha Lujza Square in Budapest, and yet there was no hot coffee to be seen. To be clear, I do not have anything against “not hot” coffee, I enjoy it, but Americano is supposed to be hot (I googled it) and it is cold outside.
However, I have learnt in my adventures as a student here that more often than not, this place is full of surprises. There is something new waiting around every corner, You just have to take it in as it comes. So, now I drink Lukewarm Americano and never order Cappuccinos.

If you want burnt garbage coffee, that is why Starbucks exists. Cappuccino, Latte, espresso, etc. are made to be consumed upon ordering. If I receive a coffee that is hot to the touch I throw it in the trash and request another one that is made properly. At hot temperatures you are burning the coffee, and while some believe that is how coffee should be (Starbucks drinkers, the French, etc.), anyone who is a connoisseur knows that hot = garbage.
If you really need garbage coffee, you should try to find a French coffee shop. They burn it and it is the worst coffee in Europe.
