Share the love with Free Hugs Budapest
Anytime in the past 2 years you could have chanced upon people offering Free Hugs in the centre of Budapest. If you did (or if you didn’t) you may be wondering what it’s all about.
We talked to the organisers and asked them what Free Hugs is and why they do it …
They simply stand in the street smiling and offering hugs to people passing by. Some people just grab a quick “pat on the back” others go all in for a real hug. Everyone goes away smiling and we have many people who say “bless you for doing this”.
Every time they have a Free Hugs Budapest event at least one person asks why we do it.
The answer is simple, people need hugs and some need them a lot.
Clive Wilton, the founder of Free hugs Budapest told us:
“The very first time I was involved in a free hugs event (in France) a lady in her 80’s hugged me and started crying on my shoulder. She told me that her husband had died one year before and that, since he had gone to hospital, nobody had hugged her.
We hugged for a few minutes and she got hugs from everyone else at that event. That day we changed someone’s life for the better, and I want to be able to offer that in Budapest.”
Every month in Budapest at least one person will say “I really needed that hug”
So look out for their monthly events which are held in Váci utca, close to Vörösmarty tér one Sunday per month from 5pm to 6.30pm. They are advertised on the Facebook page of FreeHugsBudapest. You can go along just to get a hug, or even better, join them in offering Free Hugs in Budapest.
