A Hungarian mountaineer died in New Zealand

A Hungarian mountaineer died in New Zealand after falling down 50 meters in the Arthur’s Pass National Park – Stuff.co.nz wrote. The rescuers arriving by helicopter were only able to confirm his death, szeretlekmagyarorszag.hu told.

Gergő Verhás climbed with his two mates. The group came from Auckland and they wanted to conquer the 2,275-m high Mount Rolleston. They spent the Sunday night near the peak, and they climbed down on Monday when the tragedy happened. Verhás fell down from a rock wall on the northern side of the mountain at 8 am on Monday.

The head of the Auckland club also confirmed the young man’s death. His report reveals that Gergő slipped in a clastic section and then landed 50 meters beneath, sliding through a snow patch. The other climbers could not help him. They were shocked. The rescue helicopter found the body at 1900 meters altitude.

According to szeretlekmagyarorszag.hu, Gergő Verhás was the active and popular member of the Auckland climbing club. He conquered a dozen of pikes over the past half year.
