Defence minister welcomes creation of 2nd special regiment in Hungarian army
Budapest, February 4 (MTI) – The skills of special operative forces within the Hungarian military will greatly contribute to the security of residents, Defence Minister István Simicskó said in Szolnok, in central Hungary, on Thursday.
Simicskó spoke at a presser held on the recent establishment of a second special regiment within the military, and said that the new unit, consisting of some 1,200 soldiers, will be instrumental in the fight against terrorism.
Chief of staff Tibor BenkÅ‘ said that Hungary started training staff for special forces in 2005, and Hungary’s battalion achieved international recognition last year.
Challenges of the present require that Hungary should have an operative military force which can be deployed rapidly on land, in the air or on water, Benkő said.
