Parking fees to increase in Budapest
On Wednesday, the Municipality of Budapest decided to raise parking fees in several zones, starting from August 1. In addition, parking zones may expand in Zugló and in Districts 12 and 13.
The General Assembly of Budapest decided to amend the parking decree on Wednesday afternoon. Accordingly, parking tariffs will become more expensive in some zones of Districts 2, 12, 13, and 14, Index wrote.
Based on the standard hourly parking tariffs, five zones can be distinguished in the capital: zone 5 − parking fee for 1 hour is 175 forints (EUR 0.5), zone 4 – 265 forints (EUR 0.75), zone 3 – 350 forints (EUR 1), zone 2 – 440 forints (EUR 1.25), and zone 1 – 525 forints (EUR 1.5). These prices also depend on different factors, like the number of people who want to park in the given parking zone.
Parking fees are the highest in District 5, and hourly tariffs become lower as we move towards the outer districts.
According to this system, parking fees can be increased in each zone without raising the tariffs determined by the decree, since only the zone’s rating changes.
Due to the coronavirus epidemic, parking was free on public premises in Hungary from April, but the government has recently lifted this measure, and from July 1, fees will be reintroduced everywhere. The increase in parking fees will come into effect on August 1.

The proposal claims that this trend started in 2018 when the zone rating of the entire District 5 changed and became the one that has the highest possible hourly parking tariff. As a consequence of this decision, the cheaper zones of neighbouring districts, mainly District 12, had to face increased demand for parking.
Therefore, the rating of each area is expected to become one or two levels higher.
The area of Újlipótváros (District 13), from Nagykörút (Grand Boulevard) to Dráva Street, will become the zone with the highest parking tariff. In addition, the northern border of the parking zone will be extended: instead of the railway line, the district border on Dugonics Street and Madrid Road will become the new border.
From the beginning of August, people will have to pay for parking in the area located from Diós Ditch and Kútvölgyi Road to Józsa Béla Alley and Alsó-Svábhegyi Road (near János Hospital), and a uniform fee of 440 forints will be introduced in every zone in District 12.
In District 2, the rating of the area between Margaret Bridge and Szépvölgyi Road will change from zone 5 (175 forints/hour) to zone 3 (350 forints/hour). In addition, the previous unlimited parking time will be replaced by a maximum of 3 hours of parking in the area of Marczibányi Square.
In Zugló, tariffs will change from 175 forints/hour to 265 forints/hour in the zone between Mexikói Road and King Nagy Lajos Road. The borders of the zone will be extended to include the areas around Örs Vezér Square.
Within the framework of a comprehensive review, several issues related to the parking system will be examined, such as the question of the border areas regarding their tariffs and the introduction of a progressive waiting fee based on the duration of the waiting period. Currently, Nemzeti Mobilfizetési Zrt. acts as an integrator between parking and mobile operators. The Municipality of Budapest will examine the possibility of other mobile payment options and the development of parking control software, which may be more cost-effective. It was also suggested that a residential waiting permit should only be issued if the resident does not have local tax debt.

Parking fees in downtown BP are ridiculously low. The city has excellent public transport, no excuses for using private cars to move around. So, if you want to drive around and pollute, then you must accept that that has a cost.
Public transportation system is really nice and pretty well organized. Except quite large number of buses without air conditioners during summer time. Traveling on them is a kind of torture for people. I have no idea why they can’t repair ACs and make them work.
Mario, get over yourself, with your sort of thinking even delivery people would be forced to abandon their trucks and have to carry packages all over Budapest on a bus or tram/train. Sure, some people could ditch their cars for short trips but neither you or anyone else is going to force me to walk or use public transportation when it is not convenient for me, i.e going to Tesco or somewhere I need to go for materials for a renovation project. If you like high fees be our guest, go to the parking authority and ask them to take all your money.
Jack Russell, either you do not read what others post or you have no clue about parking fees in other EU capitals. Or both.
I was referring to parking costs in downtown Budapest. And I was referring to private cars, not delivery trucks or couriers etc.
Mario, I read , I just don’t think raising parking fees is right, effective or necessary. It is a tax on people to compel them to do what a bunch of environmentalist terrorist wack jobs think they should do. I don’t drive everywhere but if I need to carry more than a few kg of items or walk up a hill I drive because I am severely disabled with bad knees and back issues. I am not concerned with what parking fees are elsewhere, I live in Hungary not London, Paris or Madrid. The Hungarian people cannot afford to be charged more for parking.
From your other post this site whether you actually stated delivery vehicles should be banned or not most environmentalist proponents would love to see everyone walking no matter what there reason for needing to travel in a motor vehicle. Nothing wrong with wanting to preserve the environment but when the environmentalist gestapo crowd gets there way everyone suffers because of the whims of the few.
#Jack Russell.
Stop moaning. In Central London it is 5,800 per day just to enter downtown by car and 1,900 an hour to park.
Paulus, That is why I don’t live in that cesspool known as London, I live in Budapest and it is a livable city and affordable. Why must everyone that flees the UK come to Hungary and beg for the same policies they fled back home in the UK ? London and the UK is a toilet full of oppressive political correctness and cultural marxism. Leave it back in the UK. The parking fees do not need to increase.
Jack Russell.
Not only are you astonishingly ignorant about London and the UK but you are also incredibly rude. And who has fled the UK? I still have my townhouse in Marylebone and homes in 2 other countries in addition to properties in Budapest.
Paulus, get over your self, I am not a Brit, but I lived there for many years. London is a 3rd world cesspool in many parts of the city and political correctness and cultural marxism is enforced by the jackbooted thugs acting as law enforcement. Being arrested for speaking the truth is a routine occurrence in all of the UK. The London Mayor Sadiq Khan would make a great dictator if he were in Libya or Iraq. The UK was a great empire once but now it is just another tyranny located just off the European continent.
Brtain is on the.continent of Europe. Check your facts.
Barking Dog, London is lucky not to have plankton like you anymore.
Paulus, You should get a comedy show on the BBC , your not funny and neither are they. People like you are why the UK is now a 3rd world country located in a once 1st world empire. Alas the British empire is now a corpse. Were not gonna let people like you destroy Hungary.
Barking dog: I am Hungarian.
