MEP Gyöngyösi’s position on the Chinese surveillance scandal
Jobbik MEP Márton Gyöngyösi about the Chinese surveillance scandal:
Yesterday morning I was informed that my name is on the long list of current and former politicians, economic decision-makers and their close relatives whose data were collected by China. This is a scandal and it raises serious national security concerns when so many people fall victim of data collection by a foreign country. We are aware that China’s culture, compared to ours, attributes a very different value to the dignity and societal role of the individual. As members of a European Christian culture however, we have always been concerned about the surveillance system built by China with the primary purpose of focusing on its own citizens thus far. On the other hand, China’s searching so deep into other countries’ citizens is not only worrying, it is unacceptable and dangerous as well.
We are looking forward to the reactions and assertive stance of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Minister Péter Szíjjártó, who has been so vocal even against our closest European allies when it comes to fighting for Fidesz’ interests. We hope that their attraction to Eastern authoritarian regimes will not override Hungary’s interests this time.
The people’s party Jobbik is working so that Hungarian people could feel secure. Welfare for all Hungarian people!
