Hungarian ice cream takes top spot in international ranking!
The Gelato Festival recently announced the best gelato makers in the world. The runner-up in the international ranking was Ádám Fazekas, head of Fazekas Confectionery in Budapest, with his pistachio fruit ice cream. Ádám Fazekas has achieved the prestigious second place in the Gelato Festival World Ranking of the world’s best ice cream makers. The pastry chef probably owes his current ranking to his previous illustrious international appearances. But what makes his creation so special, the pistachio ice cream that made him a household name last year? The slightly salty pistachio ice cream served with tonka bean raspberry paste and wafers, is a game changer because it is made from all-natural ingredients. Its victory could mark the beginning of a new era in ice cream making, writes Piac és Profit.

The Gelato Festival World Ranking has already made the international press. Ádám’s pistachio ice cream was covered by Forbes, German, Italian and American press.
“It’s incredible for me to come home with second place, I’ve only done three races and I still finished on the podium! I’m proud to have these few years behind me. I would like to thank my family, friends, colleagues and all those who believed in me in one way or another for all the support,” said Ádám Fazekas.
So what’s number one?
First place went to Marco Venturino from the ice cream shop I Giardini di Marzo. The maestro’s winning ice cream dessert is made with milk, white chocolate and a handmade rosewater base. Its unique flavour is inspired by a lesser-known liquor speciality. The rich, creamy, aromatic rose syrup that is Slow Food’s Presidium.
This is not Ádám’s first international recognition. Last December, he won first prize at the Gelato Festival World Masters. The competition that can rightly be called the world championship of gelato. And of course, Hungarians should not miss out on the experience! You can also find the gelato at Fazekas Cukrászda in Budapest, in the 16th district. In addition to the world champion pistachio, the flavours include chocolate, vanilla, salted caramel, pumpkin seed oil, but also mango, raspberry and the really extreme sour cucumber treat.
