Liver cleansing: do it this way if you want to do good for your liver
Sponsored content
Our liver is our second largest organ, which is also involved in very important physiological processes, so it does not matter at all what kind of health it enjoys. Among other things, it cleans our blood, disposes of toxins entering our body (i.e. detoxification), produces carbohydrates, proteins, fats, utilizes absorbed nutrients, participates in the production of bile essential for digestion, and also stores starch, from which, if necessary, it can produce energy.
If some kind of dysfunction occurs in our liver, which can be an unexpected disease, but can also occur due to excessive alcohol consumption or injury, unfortunately, we can feel the harmful consequences very quickly. Since the detoxification function of our liver is impaired, the poisons that enter our body enter our bloodstream without purification, overwhelm our body and damage other vital organs.
For many people, it sounds strange that their detoxification system should be detoxified in order to maintain its health, even though it is an extremely important health process. It is enough to think about how many liver-damaging substances exist – it is enough to think about the active ingredients of medicines, food additives, excessive sugar and salt consumption, or alcohol – we can easily realize the truth: indeed, liver cleansing is indeed important to preserve our health.
How often is liver cleansing recommended?
It is worth detoxifying your liver at least once a year (preventively), but if you feel that your lifestyle is more unhealthy than average (you drink more alcohol, eat a lot of fatty foods, or regularly take various medications), then it is recommended to do the liver detox more often, 2-3 times a year. liver cleansing. The point is not to neglect our liver for a long time, because the toxins accumulated in it can cause disturbances after a while, and in less fortunate cases, liver damage can occur (and we prefer not to say the worst case scenario).
In the case of which symptoms is it recommended to perform liver cleansing?
If you are often depressed, feel unreasonably weak, tired, or have indigestion, it is easy to imagine that your liver is not functioning properly and it is time for a liver cleanse. However, it is good to know that there are some other symptoms that we should take seriously in addition to these: unjustified weight gain, sleep disorders, chronic bloating, joint pains, menstrual disorders, high cholesterol, frequent constipation.
These symptoms all warn that it is time to deal with our liver. But how do we do all this? Is it possible to cleanse the liver at home? Yes, we even summarize the most important methods below:
Actions related to lifestyle changes
Most people are usually afraid of this the most: they have to change their usual life, they have to introduce foods and daily routines that make their life uncomfortable. For them, we say as a reassurance: if they manage to implement just 1-2 of the following, their livers could be much healthier in the future. So let’s look at the list, or what should be changed in our lives in order to preserve the health of our liver:
- it affects many, but not many, but we have to start with this: reduce our alcohol consumption as much as possible (alcohol is one of the cruelest killers of the liver)
- let’s move more
- lose weight if we have extra kilos
- lower our cholesterol levels
- avoid ready-made and semi-prepared foods, as well as fatty and smoked foods
- what we should also avoid or at least reduce to a very minimum is the consumption of salt, white flour and white sugar (they are not healthy anyway, even for our liver)
Of course, the above are not the most suitable methods for quick liver cleansing , they rather help preserve the health of our liver in the long term and in a way of life. But let’s continue to look at what possibilities we still have in this area.
Liver cleansing with herbs
Everyone has probably heard of milk thistle. This exceptional medicinal plant was not only made famous by centuries of folk medicine, but recent research also confirms its beneficial liver-healing effect. It helps to regenerate liver cells, heal an inflamed liver, and can even destroy cancer cells. It’s a real superplant that simply cannot be missed if you’re planning a liver cleanse.
In addition to milk thistle, it is also worth trying licorice root (which is unbeatable for detoxification), fenugreek (excellent for preventing the development of liver diseases ), and horse sorrel, which, contrary to its funny name, is a very serious herb: it is known for its extremely effective blood and liver cleansing effect.
Liver cleansing diet
A little attention can already do wonders for our liver, so there is no need to be afraid if we are unable to take a bigger step, we will help a lot if, in addition to eating the salt, flour, sugar and processed foods mentioned above as rarely as possible, we also pay attention to the following:
- eat as many vegetables as possible
- pay attention to high fiber and vitamin C intake
- let’s drink more fluids: especially non-carbonated mineral water (or tap water, whose preference is it) and herbal tea are recommended (some of the herbs mentioned above can also be found in the form of herbal tea)
- if you tend to drink coffee by the liter, due to the excessive caffeine consumption, moderation is recommended here as well, perhaps incorporating decaffeinated coffee into your daily routine (if your second or third coffee is decaffeinated, you are already on the right track)
Is there such a thing as a quick liver cleanse?
It depends on what speed means to whom. Of course, there is no such thing as a miracle drug that, if we take it once or twice, our liver will enjoy its old health again, but a thorough detoxification of our liver can be achieved with a 2-3 week course. So anyone who wants to take detoxification seriously should definitely think about it for at least a few weeks. There are 52 weeks in a year, if we spend 2-3 weeks paying attention to our liver once or twice, we have already done a lot for our health.
