New Year brings spring warmth to Hungary: almost 20 degrees on the first day of the year
If we didn’t know it was 1 January, we’d think it was spring in Hungary. You’re unlikely to catch a cold if you go out on New Year’s Eve and toast with a glass or two of champagne in the street.
No precipitation expected
In the northern and northeastern third of the country, the weather may remain cloudy and humid, with only small areas of clouds. Elsewhere, clouds will be variable in thickness, napi.hu writes. No significant precipitation is expected, with drizzle and possibly light rain.
The National Meteorological Service (OMSZ) reports on the weather forecast until midnight on Sunday, stating that the winds from the south and southwest may become stronger mainly in the Transdanubian region, where strong gusts may occur occasionally.
As high as 17 degrees Celsius
The OMSZ also reported that the lowest night temperatures are likely to be between 0 and +5 degrees Celsius. However, windy areas in Transdanubia could see much milder temperatures of around 10 degrees Celsius. Daytime highs on Sunday will be within a wide range, between 5 and 7 degrees Celsius in persistently overcast areas and between 12 and 17 degrees Celsius in less cloudy areas, but warmer in the southwest, according to the OMSZ.
