Chaos at Budapest Airport: Easter vacation turned into a nightmare

Nearly two hundred Hungarians wanted to travel from Budapest Airport, but their planned holidays turned into a nightmare. They spent the entire Easter Sunday at the airport as their plane did not take off. In the meantime, a group of Hungarians was stuck in Egypt.

Nearly two hundred people booked their Easter vacation in Egypt but did not reach their destination. Their plane did not take off for the second time on Easter Sunday. On Monday, passengers went to Budapest Airport for the third time in fear of losing their money. They were originally supposed to board a FlyEgypt flight to Hurghada on Sunday morning. However, the plane did not depart.

One of the passengers, Tünde, described the chaotic airport experience in detail to Ripost. Tünde and her partner decided 2-3 weeks ago on a one-week all-inclusive trip to Hurghada, which they booked through the travel agency Invia. The intermediary offered one of the trips of the travel agency ETI Hungary, which they were very pleased with. She added that this trip was very important to them, so three days before departure, she even checked with the travel agency to see if everything was okay with the trip, to which she received positive feedback.

However, when they arrived at the airport on Sunday morning, it turned out that the flight they were looking for had not entered the country since 6 April. The airport did not inform them that their flight would not take off in the morning. Instead, along with about 180 other passengers, they were put on the list for an evening flight. Shortly, the airport informed them that the plane would not take off in the evening, either.

At 5 PM on Sunday, Tünde and her partner arrived at the airport for a second time. They checked in their luggage, went through the screening, and then along with approximately 180 people, including 40 children, waited for the plane. As the plane did not take off in time, the airport staff started handing out food tickets to the stranded passengers. However, the vouchers only allowed them to purchase a sandwich and a bottle of water.

Then at midnight, the airport staff announced that the plane would not arrive. They received a taxi voucher, which only helped Budapest residents to get home.

It turned out that the team that was supposed to come by the “return plane” could not make it home either, writes Metropol. They were stuck in Egypt and also had to make the trip between the airport and their Egyptian accommodation three times. However, the passengers staying in Hungary were not doing any better either. When Tünde asked them when they would be able to come home and whether their group could travel to Egypt, everyone was clueless.
