Peaceful places in Hungary where you can holiday cheaply!
Hungary is not as big a tourist lure as Paris or Tokyo. However, the country does have places that are overcrowded, especially during the tourist season. Many people dislike crowds – thus, even though they would love to see a specific place, the hundreds and thousands of tourists prevents them from doing so. In this article, we will show you some places in Hungary where you can holiday freely, which are indeed beautiful but much less crowded than, for example, the Castle District in Budapest or Lake Balaton.
For those who find this year’s prices too high, there are a lot of other options, according to Pénzcentrum. The news portal has gathered some cheap but exciting places in Hungary. Check them out and you might find your next favourite destination in Hungary!
1. Zsámbék
It is located 30 km west of Budapest, in the north-western part of the Zsámbék basin, part of the Gerecse landscape. The Premonstratensians church (three-nave basilica) and the remains of a monastery are valuable monuments. It was built in the mid-13th century (1220-34) in the late Romanesque/early Gothic style, Pénzcentrum explains. It was destroyed by the great earthquake of Komárom in 1763. The interior of the ruin is now open to visitors. The former monastery’s hall with a dome vault houses a stone gallery.

The pride of the town of Hajós is the Wine Village, which is made up of around 1300 press-houses. The Wine Village is made up of regular streets, formed by the press houses and the cellars dug into the loess below. The good wines of the town are famous far and wide. Typical varieties are cabernet sauvignon, kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch), kadarka, grey friar and Cserszegi fűszeres. The development of the village dates back to the same time as the town. Since the 1980s, many cellars have been converted for guest accommodation and many have been newly built.

I vote for Tokaj and Harkany. Watch the concert schedule in Tokaj and you can combine a wine tasting tour with a great concert at the szinpad and even a Tisza river boat ride. Harkany has a first rate strand and you Pecs, Siklos and Villany close by. Harkany is a really laid back town that is a little out of the way for the traditional Western crowd.
