There is also a chance that you’ve found all of the above and much more in one subscription. Or that you want to find all of the above in one subscription.

In any case, you have chosen one plan or another when you first arrived in the country, and you have been using it ever since. What happens, though, if you realize at one point or another that you aren’t exactly happy with the choice you have made and that you would like to make a change? This is not an unusual scenario at all. People tend to change their minds, and you have the right to change your mind as well.

You are aware of the fact that changing your mind is normal and that you can wind up unhappy with the current subscription you have, and thus interested in getting a completely new one. Is There an Operator Lock Period?

This question is similar to the one above. Changing subscriptions is one thing, and changing providers is another. This is because the same provider can offer different types of subscription plans, so you may want to make a change, but still remain working with the same company. You may have found that they offer a plan that would be more suitable to your needs, and you may want to change it.

Anyway, if you have an operator-locked phone, it means that it is, well, locked to a specific provider, and that you will need to remove the lock. Sometimes, the phone cannot be unlocked for a certain period of time, meaning that you will be required to stick to the same provider and the same plan until that period expires. Fortunately, though, this is not common practice anymore, meaning that most of the phones in Norway will be unlocked when you get them, allowing you to choose for yourself which company you want to cooperate with when getting your mobile plan. Still, there is a chance that some older phones, as well as phones that you’ve been offered at a very affordable price, are locked.

Even if that is the case, though, I’ve mentioned that you can unlock them. And, doing that really isn’t difficult. All you have to do is contact customer support and be sent a code that will unlock the device. Remember, though, that you could have a lock-in period, which is usually around one year, and that you most likely won’t be able to unlock the device during that period. In any case, it is always best to discuss this specifically with your provider, so as to understand what to expect.

What Is the Cancelation Period?

The actual cancelation period is the time necessary for the contract to be completely terminated. Now, there are different types of contracts you can enter into on this market, meaning that there may also be different types of cancelation periods to be aware of. Reading the terms and the conditions when first agreeing to one subscription or another is the best way to understand the actual cancelation period. Although, you shouldn’t worry if you haven’t done that, because you can always contact the providers and let them inform you on everything.

Various different factors can affect the cancelation period. For example, if there is no binding period, as discussed above, then the process of terminating the contract and changing providers will be quite easy. On the contrary, if there is a binding period in place, you’ll need to wait for it to expire. Usually, that period cannot be longer than 12 months in total, so how long you will have to wait depends on when it is that you actually signed the contract in the first place. And, naturally, there is the option of paying the termination fee to cancel sooner, with the fee depending on how much time is left on the binding period.

Do You Pay When You Cancel?

You are, naturally, also wondering if you will be paying anything when you cancel. I’ve mentioned the termination fee above, and that is one of the payments you should be aware of when you want to switch providers. What if, however, there is no binding period and there is, therefore, no termination fee to pay? Do you pay anything at all in that case?

Depends on when you cancel. Most providers will require you to pay the full month. So, say you cancel in the middle of the month, and that is the scenario I’ve briefly mentioned above already, what do you think will happen? You will, naturally, have to pay the full month to that provider.

Is There a Chance of Getting Double Billed?

Given that you’ll need to pay the full month to the provider, you’re now wondering if there is a chance of getting double billed. There is. If you enter into a new agreement with a new provider at the same time when you cancel your old agreement, you are bound to get double billed. Meaning that, during the transition period, you’ll have to pay for both subscriptions.

Can You Avoid Being Double Billed?

Is there a way to avoid the double billing, though? Sure there is. All you have to do is change the subscriptions at the end of the month, and not in the middle of it. This way, you won’t have to worry about paying two bills at once during the transition period, given that the old provider will have already charged you for the previous month, and won’t have grounds to charge you for the following one, since it hasn’t started.

How to Choose a New Subscription for You?

In addition to all of this, you may also not be sure how to choose a new subscription plan when you want to switch. Give yourself some time and don’t do anything in a hurry. Research the providers in details, and also take your time to check out all the features offered with the plan.
