Hungary’s Reformed Church: Migration crisis should be resolved “at home”

Budapest, September 19 (MTI) – The problem of migrant masses should be resolved in their own country, the head of Hungary’s Reformed Church told public television M1 on Monday morning.

“It is our Christian duty to remind decision makers” of that, bishop István Bogárdi Szabó said, adding that “we must also do our best” and contribute to efforts aimed at resolution.

According to the bishop, the causes of war in countries the migrants are fleeing from should be eliminated.

“The Reformed Church has always made a distinction between migrants and refugees,” he said.

Concerning Germany’s experience with integrating migrants, the bishop said that integration was “protracted suicide”. He referred to claims that migrants could be integrated within 3 years, but added that each migrant could be followed by as many as 8-12 family members.

In his interview, the bishop encouraged voters to participate in the upcoming quota referendum and “cast their ballot according to their best conviction”.
