Home Sales Up in Hungary in 2013
Budapest, August 2 (MTI) – Almost 89,000 new and resale homes were sold in Hungary last year, up 3.2 percent from the previous year, a fresh summary published by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reveals.
Within this total, the share of new homes remained below 3 percent, KSH noted.
Almost 30 percent of all resale homes were sold in Budapest last year and a further 21.5 percent in other major cities.
The report said the fall in the price of resale homes continued, although at a slower pace. Prices were 2.9 percent lower in 2013 than a year earlier. KSH notes that nominal prices of resale homes have dropped by 16.6 percent since 2008 while their real value fell by 32 percent.
There was no turnaround last year on the market for new homes either, KSH said. Prices rose by 1 percent in 2013, but the number of transactions hit a new low, with only 2,300 new homes sold. Compared with 2008, nominal prices fell by 10.3 percent and the real value of new homes was down 26.5 percent.
The average price of a resale home was 9.7 million forints in 2013 and the price of a resale home in Budapest was 13.6 million forints.
