Attention! Problems expected in fuel service during the festivities in Hungary
Fuel prices will increase significantly in January. Therefore, Hungarian drivers are expected to swarm the fuel stations during the festive season. As a result, some gas stations may run out of fuel in some places.
According to Blikk, there is enough fuel in Hungary, but temporarily skyrocketing needs may result in shortages. MOL Group wrote they obtained enough fuel to serve the needs. However, logistics will require more time, provided the number of orders grows considerably.
Previous experience shows that Hungarian drivers consume the most fuel during the holidays. Demand increases not only because of private car owners but police, firefighters and ambulance services. If MOL receives more orders, logistics will require more time.
From January, the tax on fuel in Hungary will increase significantly. That will result in a HUF 41.3 fuel price rise.
In Hungary, fuel prices fell by 15-20% this year. That came after the government abolished fuel price caps, which resulted in higher consumption. The aforementioned increase will bring us back to the September prices.
Thus, you should fill your tank as soon as possible.
PM Orbán said during the Thursday international press conference that the government would not like to raise taxes. However, they must due to international rules. The question is in how many steps the administration will take. That suggests the fuel price rise will take place gradually.
