Coronavirus – What do we have to face once the epidemic peaks in Hungary?
Can we get some relief in May? Will we have the summer back for ourselves? Will the epidemic have a second wave? Taking the experiences, testing, the number of infections, and the nature of the disease into consideration, it seems like PM Orbán is expecting a second wave and is preparing the Hungarian healthcare system to be ready by May.
Index reported that after PM Orbán announced that the epidemic in Hungary is expected to peak on May 3 and that this was what the healthcare sector was preparing for from a technical standpoint as well, the whole country has become an expert in pandemics. It does not mean that the epidemic will end that day, but many think that the underlying meaning is that Hungary will have the most infections on this day. Regardless, PM Orbán intended to give hope to the people, but a new period is certainly coming, during which the correct behaviour of Hungarians is essential.
The peak of a pandemic means that after that, the number of infections remains the same or slowly starts to decrease day by day. This is not unlikely, but not so long ago the government was talking about how Hungary is on the edge of mass infection.
It was reported at the beginning of April that the spreading of the infection had been successfully slowed down, and Hungary can expect the peak of the coronavirus epidemic later, in the middle of May, but the country hopes that this prognosis is false, and the peak will happen in the first week of the month. PM Orbán reported that by May 3, Hungarian hospitals will be ready with enough equipment and enough space for patients, if necessary.
PM Orbán added that on May 3 – along with other countries – Hungary will be able to present a program which includes essential steps on how to return to normal life slowly.
Easing the restrictions could result in the arrival of a second wave of the coronavirus. To avoid this from happening, many experts believe that another formula needs to be added to the program that the government would like to announce. The most effective step would be increasing testing. Scientists reported that the strictest social distancing reduces the number of infections to almost zero in at least five months.
If many people are let out from home-quarantines, everything starts again from the beginning.
Hungary started to free thousands of hospital beds preparing for the second wave of the pandemic to happen. The ease of the restrictions is inevitable either way as the economy needs to regain its power again, otherwise more and more people will not have the financial support to have food on their tables.
