Former Fidesz ally: PM’s wife holds secret power, Orbán family operates Hungary as a corporation
Péter Magyar, the former spouse of ex-Justice Minister and prominent Fidesz EP candidate Judit Varga, has offered insights into the inner workings of Hungary under the Orbán regime. Magyar asserts that Orbán’s wife, Anikó Lévai’s influence extends far beyond the public’s perception.
In an extensive interview with telex.hu, a Hungarian opposition-leaning news outlet with opposition leanings, Magyar unveiled the extent of the Orbán family’s control over Hungary, extending far beyond the public’s perception.
Anikó Lévai’s underrated influence
According to Magyar, Anikó Lévai, Orbán’s wife, wields a considerable level of influence in Hungarian public affairs, surpassing the common perception. Despite not holding any formal political office, Magyar contends that Lévai’s impact is vastly underestimated. He further commended her constructive contributions to Hungary’s public sphere, highlighting her active role in overseeing matters within the Fidesz party.
Magyar claims that he witnessed Lévai requesting reports from ministers and MPs concerning political issues. The Fidesz EP candidate added that Anikó Lévai even asserts a role in personnel decisions, telex.hu wrote.
Another influential Orbán son-in-law
Magyar also revealed the involvement of other family members in what he likened to the Orbán “corporation.” Alongside the PM’s son-in-law, István Tiborcz, noted as one of Hungary’s wealthiest individuals and a pivotal figure in the family’s business dealings, Magyar shed light on the role of Tamás Szokira, husband to Orbán’s daughter Sára. Szokira, as per Magyar, plays a crucial part in managing government-friendly media outlets and holds sway over significant decisions concerning appointments and strategic orientations. “I do not want to quote from mafia movies, but we all saw examples where everybody had his or her role”, Magyar concluded.
In addition to familial dynamics, Magyar provided insights into the Hungarian PM’s dinner meetings with oligarchs and other influential figures. He recounted gatherings where the prime minister engaged with close associates, barely delving into crucial topics, such as the concerning state of the Hungarian healthcare sector, but instead discussing which football teams they should buy next, investment options and the repurchase of the Budapest Airport.
Oligarchs and lucrative contracts
Nevertheless, during such dinners, the prime minister never broached business topics; his focus remained squarely on political affairs. On one occasion, amidst the height of the EU funding dispute, the Hungarian PM declared that he would not allocate Hungary a single cent. His sole concern pertained to whether Brussels would dare to take such action. We can affirm that they did not. The European Union opted to release EUR 10 billion for Hungary out of the nearly EUR 30 billion frozen within the RRF and development funds, citing concerns regarding the rule of law.
Magyar concluded by underscoring the PM’s role as the ultimate arbiter in business disputes among Hungarian oligarchs, emphasising the prime minister’s authority in determining the allocation of lucrative contracts and ventures.
Through Magyar’s revelations, a more vivid portrayal emerges of Hungary’s political landscape, characterised by familial connections, strategic partnerships and the consolidation of power under the Orbán regime.

Reply would be appreciated from the Holy Roman Catholic Church of Hungary – it’s Cardinal – Peter Erdo.
‘Be not Afraid” – Peter.
The problem is that the government controlled media in Hungary generally will not report on the specifics of Peter Magyar or anyone else’s detailed descriptions of Fidesz corruption and nepotism. These reports can’t make it onto television or radio and generally are banished to the internet that Fidesz cannot control. The general population and in particular the older generation of seal clapping Fidesz afficianados live in a closed world of information controlled by the party.
Concur Larry.
The “older generation” in MAJOR numbers, of low education in cases if any – low intellectual standards that exists – in the villages, in the Cities, and the districts of regional cities, just are DELIBERATELY – Politically designed motivated by Fidesz to be STARVED of the TRUE political landscape picture, that is WORSENING in Hungary.
Fidesz – control of the media, the judiciary and Ruling by Decree – when WILL Hungary wake up, the path they are being TAKEN.
Orbánistan….
I never thought I’d say this about a country I hold dear, but it really has become a shithole country.
Somehow, reporting second-hand sour-grape stories from disgruntled losers will not convince people to abandon the support of the government. Actions speak louder than words or innuendos.
Hello – is there anyone home ?
