Hungarian footballer Stieber moved from Germany to US club DC United

According to mlsz.hu, Zoltán Stieber moved from German Bundesliga club Kaiserlautern to US club DC United this week and is looking forward to competing in the American MLS league, an experience he expects to differ a lot from his long period in Germany, especially in terms of training.

The Hungarian international midfielder has already been introduced to his new club’s supporters in America’s capital city of Washington DC.

“Already today the supporters could become familiar with us, the new signings including myself, at a training session which was open for the public to watch, after which we welcomed questions at a press conference. I’ve met with two people from the Hungarian Embassy who have offered to help me with all sorts of official paperwork… etc, so if everything goes well, I’ll perhaps be able to play from as early as next week. Everyone has been so helpful to me and my teammates, coaches and everyone else have all been really positive. Right now I really needed this change and therefore I’m very happy that I can be amongst such people”, Stieber told mlsz.hu.

“I need to say that in terms of pace and strength I’ve never experienced such these types of sessions”, the 28-year-old continued. “In terms of technical capability there is room for development but no one should think that these players are not capable, it’s just that the Germans are a little further ahead in this respect. I am sure that in other areas too, the MLS will soon reach the level of the top European leagues”.

Stieber’s coach Ben Olsen is counting on him as a left-sided player to start with but the former Aston Villa FC and Hamburger SV player can play elsewhere across the forward line.

“Naturally I spoke about this with the head coach”, Stieber said. “I said he can count on me to play on either flank or through the middle. I will start by receiving opportunities to play on the left side and then we’ll see what the future brings. In any case the most important thing is that I can fight for as many playing opportunities as possible so what is essential is that I can be in the best possible form and therefore be of as much use as possible for the national team if I receive a call-up”.

Zoltán Stieber is a 21-time Hungarian international who participated in the 2016 UEFA European Championships, the first game of which featured a late breakaway goal of his which secured a 2-0 win for Hungary over group rivals Austria.
