Iohannis strives for good relations with Orban
Berlin, November 30 (MTI) – Romania’s new president Klaus Iohannis said in an interview to German daily Welt am Sonntag that he trusted that he would be able to form a good relationship with Hungary’s prime minister, Viktor Orban.
In the interview published on Sunday, Iohannis said that he did not want Romania to simply remain a member of the western community and the country should play a greater role in the region. “Romania can undertake an important stabilising role,” he said.
Asked if he sees eye to eye with the “anti-Orbans”, he said: “I’ve never seen myself as anti-anything”. Any such expectations will not have an influence on Romanian-Hungarian relations, he said, adding that “I am sure that I can create a good relationship with Viktor Orban.” Compared with those issues that divide them, the two members of the European Union are united in the majority of affairs.
