Italy is furious at a Hungarian driver who parked illegally
A Hungarian driver parked his car illegally in the pedestrian area of an Italian town called Chioggia, much to the indignation of locals.
The Hungarian driver was captured in the historic Italian town of Chioggia, parking in a pedestrian area next to the Verna canal. The locals are outraged, so much so that they have even posted a photo of the incident on a shame site.
The car with the Hungarian number plate is clearly visible on the page of shame created by Lucio Tiozzo Fasiolo, a local MP. The Italian politician blames not only the driver of the Mercedes but also the GPS.
He believes that the on-board computer is wrongly directing tourists to the banks of the Vena, where it is almost impossible to turn around, says index.hu. In the city centre, signs indicate that it is forbidden to drive in by car. The city has asked pedestrians to follow the signs next time and not the GPS.
As visitors choosing to drive in Italy will know – there are numerous ZTL zones. ZTL stands for ‘Zona a Traffico Limitato’, or Limited Traffic Area. This is an area in the center of Italian cities and towns where traffic is restricted and are well-marked. Drive in without the necessary authorization and you WILL get fined.
Choiggia apparently has one as well – the ticket will be in the mail, soon!
