Jobbik calls for probe into alleged Hungarian ties with ISIS

(MTI) – The radical nationalist Jobbik party has proposed a special session of parliament’s foreign affairs and national security committees to investigate the alleged role of Hungarian mercenaries in the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS).

Citing western media reports, deputy group leader Marton Gyongyosi told a press conference on Wednesday that thousands of western mercenaries, including dozens of Hungarians, are fighting in the ranks of the terrorist organisation.

Although Hungary’s counter-terrorism force TEK and the national security services are keeping tabs on the Hungarians concerned, parliament should also be informed about them, their purposes and the risk of their involvement, he said.

Jobbik warned long ago how “perilous” the western practice of destabilising countries for its own purposes was, Gyongyosi said, mentioning Afghanistan and Iraq as examples.

He blamed Euro-Atlantic endeavours for the current situation, and the Hungarian government for supporting the western position.
