No more live fish sales in Hungary under pre-Christmas decree

Budapest (MTI) – Fish can no longer be sold alive in Hungary as of Dec. 17, under a decree issued by the farm ministry.

Fish can be stored in tanks until they are sold, but they must be shocked before sale in a way that they no longer come to, the ministry told MTI on Friday. The new rule applies to fish caught in ponds or fishing lakes, too.

Fish is the traditional food in Hungary on Christmas Eve.
