Transcarpathian Hungarians ask PM Orbán to stop obstructing Ukraine in open letter
Transcarpathian Hungarians have appealed to PM Orbán, urging his support for Ukraine’s entry into the European Union. The Hungarian Democratic Alliance of Ukraine underscored in an open letter that Ukraine is deserving and well-suited for integration. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary does not agree on the matter to say the least.
Reaching out to PM Orbán
As reported by Index, the Hungarian Democratic Alliance of Ukraine has reached out to PM Orbán, seeking his support. In an open letter posted on the organisation’s Facebook page, they ask Viktor Orbán to endorse the decision to open negotiations on Ukraine’s EU membership, scheduled for 14–15 December. The organisation justifies Ukraine’s accession, among other reasons, by noting “significant progress over the year in implementing the European Commission’s recommendations on ensuring the rights of national minorities.” Nevertheless, Hungarian politicians might not agree with the statement. As we have reported HERE, a recent survey revealed that the majority of Hungarians do not support Ukraine’s EU financing either.
Worthy for accession?
The organisation expresses hope that all norms outlined in the aforementioned law will be incorporated into Ukrainian legislation. They view Ukraine as worthy and suitable for EU accession. European integration is deemed of paramount importance, and the organisation urges European leaders to endorse the accession. They also believe that the recommendations of Transcarpathian Hungarian social organisations should be considered. Additionally, the Hungarian Democratic Alliance of Ukraine stated in their Facebook post:
This step is crucial to reaffirm Ukraine’s commitment to strengthening the rights of people of different nationalities throughout the country, particularly in Transcarpathia.
Hungary remains uncertain
During the EU ambassadors’ meeting last Sunday, Hungary and other member states failed to reach a common standpoint. The primary topics of discussion were the issue of the EUR 50 billion aid for Ukraine and the commencement of accession negotiations. FM Szijjártó maintains that any decision must adhere to the integration rules and ensure EU unity. Furthermore, he believes that the necessary conditions are not met in the case of Ukraine. Hungarians in Transcarpathia
As mentioned earlier, the Hungarian Democratic Alliance of Ukraine asserts that measures have been taken to safeguard the rights of minorities and different nationalities in Ukraine. Conversely, FM Szijjártó stated that the Ukrainian minority law is under analysis alongside Transcarpathian Hungarian organisations. Nevertheless, it is evident that the law does not restore rights gradually withdrawn since 2015.
Prime Minister – Victor Orban, continues to “deepen” the wedge dividing separating Hungary from the European Union.
Hungary, through Orban – we are ostracized outcasts of the European Union.
Hungary, through the ideology of Victor Orban, his political and economic theories, the introduction and the implementation(s) of his policies, that “challenge” deeply Democracy, whilst he Orban continues this agenda, the isolation of Hungary, as an EU member widens.
Hungary should not care about what the rest of Europe thinks, the propaganda is greater than the truth. Orban IS the only man keeping Hungary from becoming a disaster like the whole of Western Europe. Ukraine IS a corrupted criminality and does not belong in NATO no matter who states otherwise. Orban & Hungary have the admiration of people worldwide who understand what he and the majority of the nation stand for. Sadly paid agitators and commentators inside Hungary wish to destroy him & the nation. Give in to them and the last 30 years Hungary has spent growing it’s national identity will be lost once again, this time for ever.
How much were the Transcarpathians paid?
‘Meat in the sandwich’ when HUngary seems to be flirting with both leaving the EU and having closer relations with Putin’s Russia etc., but this would require throwing ethnic Hungarian Ukrainians under a bus?
Then amongst the Hungarian diaspora in Ukraine… anyone of working age & including youth, will leave permanently…. does not seem sustainable or in Hungary’s interests?
Putting aside anyone’s views of Orban think logically if you were a Hungarian-Ukrainian living in Transcarpathia. Yes or No – would you prefer that Ukraine became an EU member? Beyond that would you prefer to live under Russian rule? The answers are quite obvious.
