Employment in 20-64 age group to reach 75 per cent in foreseeable future
Employment in the 20-64 age group is expected to reach 75 percent in the foreseeable future, an economy ministry official said on Wednesday. The government will thereby meet the European Union target for 2020.
Employment is already above 73 percent in this age group in Hungary as against the European Union average of 70-71 percent, Péter Cseresnyés, state secretary in charge of the labour market and training, told a press conference.
Prime ministerial office state secretary Csaba Dömötör said a consensus in Hungary had emerged on applying the principle of “offering work instead of benefits”.
Those that are able to work and want to should be able to find a job, he said.
The first results of this principle are already visible in the record number of jobholders in Hungary today, he added.
