Fidesz: CEU ‘only a side issue’
Budapest, April 11 (MTI) – The ruling Fidesz party’s group leader told commercial broadcaster TV2 on Tuesday that the Central European University was “merely a side issue” when it comes to the “dispute” between the Hungarian government and US financier George Soros.
Lajos Kósa said the ultimate dispute concerns the migration issue, since it is here that strains between the Hungarian government and the “empire” controlled by Soros are apparent, he said.
“We don’t want to close the CEU, and we cannot any way; the Hungarian state does not have any jurisdiction over an American organisation,” Kósa added.
“If there is willingness, it will be possible to come to an agreement,” he said.
“All that has to be taken into consideration is that this construction [the university] operated outside all regulations. George Soros, too, must observe the rules in Hungary,” he added.
