Vaclav Klaus, former president and prime minister of the Czech Republic, has called Viktor Orbán, Hungary’s re-elected prime minister, “the only credible politician in Europe”, according to a video footage posted on Facebook by the Hungarian foreign minister on Saturday.
In the interview segment, posted by Péter Szijjártó, Klaus described Orban’s success “important” from the point of view of the West.
“I will not keep it secret that I consider Orbán the only friend of mine among Europe’s influential politicians today, whom I greatly appreciate and
I agree with many of his views as regards his approach to life, the world, society, Europe and solutions to current problems,”
Klaus said according to the footage.
Klaus said Orbán is the only politician who represents his country and his nation and is acting in that spirit.

Credible as asking one of his girlfriends what she thinks about him…. Poor journalism as usual here.
Klaus is known for his Euroscepticism, climate change denial, homophobia and anti-immigration and support of free market capitalism. His stances are often described as liberal conservative combined with national liberalism and Czech nationalism. His political views have been referred to as Klausism. What a fantastic person for Orbán to be complimented by. Sound like one and the same.
Klaus’ presidency was marked by many controversies over his strong opinions on issues ranging from global warming denial to Euroscepticism, and a wide-ranging amnesty declared in his last months of office, triggering his indictment by the Czech Senate on charges of high treason.
Orbán wants to be very careful with whom he’s aligning himself with. Much criticism is coming from other countries, although it’s probably not broadcast on state media here. Can’t play the rebel, and yet still pocket EU funds.
Orban deminishing image that has be Plagued with controversy – sighting just the past (4) four years, by association with individuals like the subject of this article, continues to add mounting Fuel, that Orban – is on the way outside of any Respect, from those who understand his Agenda – and vision of the future – Hungary.
Hungary – under Fidesz/Orban in rapid decline as a country, with an Economy in a SHAMBLES.
Citizens of Hungary – 9.6 million population, that voted in Favour the return to office of Fidesz/Orban – remember you take ownership and responsibility – for what we are witnessing and still to be seen, in the decline of the brand name Hungary and the life-style we will be forced to live.
The key word in the headline is ‘former’. Who cares what he thinks? He is yesterday’s man. The Czech Republic refusing to attend a meeting of the V4 in Budapest last month is the story now.
Orban is deeply admired around the world by all who cherish freedom! Courageous, ethical Orban is an outstanding role model of what a leader should be! A leader who protects his own people and nation! A shining light in this dark world!

Unclear where you get your info, you’ll note very few see Orbán the way you do. Unless you’re being cynical of course.
@Linda Rivera – I know that you live in the US and so your understanding of things is thousands of miles away from reality.
