(MTI) – Hungary’s armed forces were used for government propaganda when Gripen fighters flew over the Ferencvaros football stadium in Budapest as part of its opening ceremony, opposition Socialist MP Marta Demeter said Tuesday.
Demeter told a news conference that ruling Fidesz has “crossed a limit” and referred to “the most modest calculations” showing that the “Sunday stunt” cost at least 30 million forints to Hungarian taxpayers.
She said it was misleading to say that the fighters were used to celebrate a state investment and that the flight could be counted into pilots’ training time.
She added that she had requested information from the defence ministry on how much the flight of the Gripens cost.
