PHOTOS: New tourist attraction opens at Lake Balaton: everyone can visit the former factory site
The renewed Sió floodgate at Lake Balaton was inaugurated on Tuesday, and its immediate surroundings were also completely renovated. The Siófok waterfront is now a community space, and the landscaped former factory area is open to the public from Wednesday.

After the investment, the floodgate and its surroundings not only fulfil their basic technical function, but also fit into the city and offer a new experience to the people living and arriving here, Helló Magyar reports.
With EU funding of HUF 15.5 billion (EUR 39.4 million), the drainage system of the “Hungarian sea” has been modernised with a total of HUF 19 billion (EUR 48.3 million), the Sió floodgate and the Sió canal have been rebuilt, wetlands have been created and the former floodgate site has been transformed into a community space.
