Shares in retail chain Pepco fell 10% on the stock market after a hackers’ attack from Hungary led to the loss of around EUR 15.5 million from the company’s account.
Hackers from Hungary have stolen EUR 15.5 million (HUF 6 billion) from Pepco’s account.
The company said that they are working closely with the banks and the police to try to recover their money, but they do not know what the chances are. “At this stage of the investigation, it does not appear that the incident has affected customer, supplier or even staff data,” the statement added.
The company has also ordered a group-wide review of all their systems and processes. The retail chain also confirmed that its balance sheet is stable and its liquidity is more than EUR 400 million, while its revenue side remains strong, portfolio.hu reports.
Pepco has 3,600 stores across Europe, of which more than 1,300 are in Poland and 350 in Hungary. The retail chain mainly offers clothing and household products.
