It’s official: Hungary lets in everybody coming from Ukraine!
It has become official that Hungary will let in everybody coming from Ukraine. The relevant government decree was published yesterday evening. Russia attacked Ukraine yesterday, the soldiers of the two armies are fighting in many parts of the country. Meanwhile, many Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, suffered shelling and bombing.
The government acted quickly
Thus, it is not surprising that thousands of Ukrainian citizens started heading to the border crossings. As we reported yesterday, the refugees are crossing the Hungarian border by foot in Beregsurány. Based on the report of the Hungarian News Agency’s correspondent, at least 400-500 people with suitcases and other luggage walked across the border yesterday.
Before, the Hungarian Helsinki Committee said that Hungary must change the relevant laws to receive the refugees from Ukraine. That was because they could not submit an application for refugee status at the border crossings or anywhere in Hungary. Refugees could submit said application only at the Hungarian embassy in Kyiv. The relevant regulation has been in effect since May 2020. Therefore, the organisation demanded immediate legislation from the government. Otherwise, Hungary could not keep PM Orbán’s promise to Ukrainian citizens fleeing from the war, the organisation said.
According to telex.hu, the relevant government decree was published yesterday evening. According to it, the Hungarian government guarantees temporary protection for those who leave Ukraine because of the armed conflict. The rule applies to all Ukrainian citizens, as well as third-world citizens residing lawfully in Ukraine.
The government did not submit a bill to solve the problem. They did not need to because of the special legal order introduced during the epidemic. The document has been in effect since 10 pm yesterday, so refugees showing up at the Hungarian borders will be treated following its measures.
However, there is one exception
According to 444.hu, Ukrainian President Zelenskiy ordered general mobilisation yesterday. That means no male citizen eligible for military service between 18 and 60 can leave Ukraine. Of course, local Hungarians do not want to join the war because it is not theirs. Therefore, many of them would like to escape conscription by coming to Hungary. Legally, they can only do so if they have Hungarian citizenship, a valid Hungarian passport, and they used that travel document before. Many do so, for example, at the Beregsurány border crossing.
However, not only men would like to come to Hungary. Families with children, even many older people are packing all their valuables into suitcases and are seeking safety in Hungary. Apart from the government and the churches, many local governments offered their help. For example, the 2nd and the 1st districts of Budapest did so.

It’s lucky for the Ukrainians that they have white skin. Were they brown or darker, there would have been no moves to help them.
Well the one so far they have help, how did it affect them. Sweden is a shit hole now. Shut up.
Anonymous, you are full of BS, Hungary will accept anyone, except Ukrainian men between the ages of 18 and 60, they will accept third world citizens who are legally living in the Ukraine. Don’t start crap.
Anonymous must be a liberal. To them, everything revolves around race. Disgusting.
When I grew up in Hungary I can’t remember a single adult conversation regarding skin colour despite my own family being very light compared to may around us. Nor when as an adult I returned home with my preteens to work & live for a time during a sabbatical. However, as should be, there were often conversations about people who did not work hard to give their kids every opportunity, or did not respect education to ensure that they and their kids studied committedly to improve themselves. It is important for people to draw attention to people not doing their share to community, to the economy, for their loved ones which all affect country. Skin colour, is such a tiny part of a person’s identity.
