Mobile operators Yettel, Telekom, Vodafone to increase prices sharply in Hungary

Yettel Hungary will increase its tariffs in line with inflation, according to a statement from the operator. The monthly charges for minutes and SMS will remain unchanged. In addition to Yettel, the other two main mobile operators, Vodafone and Telekom, are also increasing their tariffs.

Residential and small business subscribers can expect a 15.3% tariff change from 5 March 2024 due to the annual inflation-based tariff adjustment. The monthly per-minute and SMS charges will remain unchanged and the price of additional data subscriptions for residential subscriptions will not change, according to a statement sent to Telex.

For small business subscriptions, the change will affect the monthly and one-off additional service charges, while the monthly per minute and SMS charges will remain unchanged for these tariffs.

For tariff plans whose data allowance cannot be used in full in roaming tariff zone 1/EU and are affected by the tariff change, the roaming data allowance will increase from 5 March.

Yettel will notify its customers of the inflation-linked fee adjustment via SMS or email, Telex adds.

Magyar Telekom

Magyar Telekom will increase its prices by 15 percent from 1 March due to the annual inflation-based tariff adjustment, the company said in a statement.

The Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) published on 12 January that the average change in consumer prices was 17.6% last year. The company said it took into account economic and market trends and the interests of its customers when it imposed a price increase below the rate of inflation.

“Please be informed that […] the monthly subscription fee for your public tariff package will be automatically adjusted by up to 15.4 percent from 1 March 2024,” Vodafone informed its subscribers.

“Vodafone Hungary’s inflation-linked tariff adjustment based on the consumer price index, which would automatically come into force in 2024, would be set at 22.01%. Due to the positive economic developments in recent months, the decrease in the inflation rate and in order to reduce the financial burden on customers, we are offering a discount on the rate of the tariff adjustment.

We will therefore apply a 15.4% tariff adjustment instead of 22.01% to the monthly subscription fees of residential and business customers using our public tariffs from 1 March 2024,” Vodafone wrote.
