Budapest Exiles ready for a tough fight in Szeged
The Budapest Exiles travel this weekend to Szeged where they will play against Fit World Gorillak. Until the very last minute it wasn’t certain whether the game would be played, due to someone in the team’s surrounding testing positive for Covid-19 in the previous week.
The club suspended the 2nd XV’s match last weekend against Budapest Kosok and ordered tests for those who came in contact with that person, and additional squad members just to be on the safe side. With all tests returning with a negative result the game was given a green light.
“We did have a Covid-19 threat last week, so those who potentially had contact with the infected person got tested and went into self-isolation” says 1st XV manager Antoni Bohdanowicz.
“All results came back negative, so the decision to play the game was made on Wednesday. We are very happy that the host team was patiently waiting for the outcome of our tests and that we can go ahead and play this fixture. At the same time we did lose one training session, as we have to treat safety and wellbeing of players and staff in first place” says Bohdanowicz.
The Exiles are currently second in the league, above Szeged, who are in fourth place, but have played one game more. The “Pink and Blacks” have had an excellent record so far against their hosts, never facing a defeat. But this isn’t a reason to take a win for granted. Actually quite the opposite. With the home field advantage and good organized team Szeged can be a threat to the Exiles.
“The weather means it’s going to be a messy game, a game that Szeged likes” says Exiles head coach Thomas Aponte. “We had a good training session in the rain on Thursday night, so we know our weaknesses, we just need our heads focused on them. Szeged is a very tough team, they like to use their forwards a lot, but we trained for that. We know what to expect in defense, and we are ready for them in attack”.
