Budapest Mayor calls on govt to cap fuel prices for public transport as well

Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony on Friday called on Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to extend the 480-forint fuel price cap to public transport, besides private consumers.

In an open letter also published on Karácsony’s Facebook page, the mayor accused the government of “further punishing” public transport, “even though it is in our common interest that as many people as possible use it.”

Passengers “are already paying one of the highest value-added taxes in the European Union, and now they will also have to pay for higher fuel prices,” he said.
