Opposition Socialists expel Tapolca leader over accepting Jobbik deputy mayoral candidacy
Budapest (MTI) – The opposition Socialists have expelled Jozsef Levai, president of the party’s Tapolca chapter, for accepting radical nationalist Jobbik’s offer of the post of deputy mayor.
Zoltan Dobo, the town’s (Jobbik) mayor, confirmed to MTI on Thursday the offer. Taking the interests of the town into consideration he decided to appoint two deputy mayors, one from the Jobbik party and one Socialist, he insisted.
Lajos Rig, a former deputy mayor, stepped down when he won a parliamentary mandate for Jobbik in the April 12 by-election in the Tapolca ward.
Dobo said consultations with Levai were held in front of local Jobbik members, and the Socialist politician on Thursday accepted the offer.
A vote on the two new deputy mayors will be held in the town’s assembly on Friday.
