Orbán cabinet opposes qualified majority decisions in EU foreign policy
Hungary does not support applying a qualified majority in the European Union’s decisions on foreign policy, Zsolt Németh, head of the Hungarian Parliament’s foreign policy committee, told MTI in Brussels on Tuesday.
Speaking after a meeting of member states’ parliamentary foreign policy committees, Németh said
the EU should pursue a “louder, clearer and bolder foreign policy”, but without violating the sovereignty of member states or sowing further discord among them.
The EU’s foreign policy should not be burdened by contentious issues such as the acceptance of the “quota law”, he said, calling compromise-based foreign policy decision making a great virtue of the European Union.
A strong leadership would be able to represent and enforce those compromise-based decisions effectively in the international arena, he said.
The EU has lately “turned inwards” and failed to focus on the bloc’s enlargement, Németh said.
European Commission head Jean-Claude Juncker’s statement that no enlargement could be expected during his five-year tenure “had carried a negative message”, he said.
The position that the EU should be reformed comprehensively before further states can join the bloc is “dangerous” as it fails to calculate with the possibility of conflicts erupting in the Western Balkans, he said.
The enlargement process can also add value to, and should go hand in hand with, the reforms, Németh said.

The European Parliament has dealt with a unique resolution calling for reparations for crimes committed during the period of European colonialism in Africa. Last week the European Parliament approved by an overwhelming majority a resolution calling on EU parliamentarians to call on the EU and its Member States to take measures to combat the structural racism faced by people of African descent in Europe. The European Parliament strongly calls on the EU, its institutions and national authorities to develop a policy against racism and to end discrimination in the areas of education, housing, health, criminal justice, political participation and migration. In the press release about the resolution, the writers try to justify their regressive bill in the light of increasing Afro-attacks. The EU parliamentarians call for recognition of the racist, discriminatory and foreign hostile suffering of Afro-Europeans, to provide adequate protection against these inequalities, also to ensure that hate crimes are investigated, prosecuted and punished. In addition, people of African descent should be taken more into account in current funding programs and in the next multiannual financial framework (2021-2027). And what does the EU to protect their own people against attacks by the African youth?
The agenda goes even further. Racial profiling should be stopped, for example, since the frequent use of racial and ethnic profiles in criminal prosecutions, anti-terrorism measures and immigration control would result in numerous violent incidents and deaths that would occur during the imprisonment of the apparently African migrants. This practice must be stopped. The thrust of this resolution, however, is the call for compensation for crimes against humanity during colonialism. The resolution should encourage EU institutions and Member States to address and correct injustices and crimes against humanity committed in the name of European colonialism. There are e.g. compensation proposed such as a public apology and the return of stolen art objects to the countries of origin. Parliament also calls on the EU countries to release their colonial archives in order to form a comprehensive perspective on colonialism and slavery in the curricula. That would mean an even greater indoctrinated debt in the education system towards Europeans because in the last century no-one from today’s society has participated in these matters. The resolution also states that Africans living in Europe are exposed to constant discrimination and suffer from deeply rooted negative stereotypes. There are signs that Afro-European children get lower grades in school than their white peers. They would also leave school early more often. The European parliament is apparently filled with strange people. They say that they represent us but how can you imagine this? We, the white people are discriminated again and are sucked empty while the black people continue their life laughing and taking good care of it. This will lead to an uprise one day. Don’t they know that it was (and still is) common use to attack other tribes, put them in jail of sell them to sailors and sheiks in the Middle-East? Why do only we have to apologize?
