Orbán presents Bulgarian president with high state award
Budapest, November 10 (MTI) – Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Thursday presented Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev with a high state award.
The president received the Order of Merit, Grand Cross with Chain, a high state award that can be granted to foreign heads of state. The Bulgarian president received the honour for his efforts to help deepen Hungarian-Bulgarian relations and to work towards the stability of the region and cooperation with Europe.
Orbán said at the ceremony in Budapest that Plevneliev, the fourth president of Bulgaria since the transition to democracy, is a friend of Hungary’s, who has had a decisive impact on the development of Hungarian-Bulgarian relations.
Plevneliev thanked Hungary for the award and said that the Hungarian and Bulgarian people have always nurtured good relations throughout the centuries, both fighting against Ottoman oppression and later against communism.
