Pécs sells majority stake in local airport to the state
The local council of Pécs decided in an unanimous vote on Tuesday to sell its majority stake to the state in the two companies operating the Pogány airport near the city in southern Hungary.
Accordingly, the city will sell for 980 million forints (EUR 2,67m) the 51 percent stakes it owns in the Pécs-Pogány Airport Operator Kft and the Air-Horizont NKft, respectively.
Acting Deputy Mayor Csaba Ruzsa, who submitted the proposal, said
the move would pave the way for the airport’s modernisation with state help.
Plans are afoot to
extend the runway to 2,180 metres so that the airport be open to 130-150 seat commercial airplanes as well, he said.
An upgrade will help boost the city’s industrial capacity, businesses and tourism as well, Ruzsa said.
