PHOTOS: A book of Sándor Petőfi poems in Hindi released in India

On 21st October, 2022, the Liszt Institute – Hungarian Cultural Centre Delhi celebrated the 200th anniversary of the birth of Sándor Petőfi, the greatest Hungarian poet. The well-organised event took place at the Lokayata Art Gallery at Hauz Khas Village, Delhi.

On this occasion, a book of Sándor Petőfi poems translated into Hindi by Anurag Kumar, Indukant Aangiras, Inderpreet Kaur, Jatin Kaushik, Himani Parashar, Dr. Sneh Gupta, Indu Mazaldan was launched. The book has been edited by Dr. Margit Köves and Girdhar Rathi. The 126-page book contains Hindi translations of 43 poems of Petőfi preceded by a detailed write-up on the greatest Hungarian poet by János Háy, a contemporary Hungarian author, poet and playwright.

The Petőfi Literary Fund has provided the funding for the publication and translation. The publication of the book was carried out within the framework of the cooperation according to the objective of the Petőfi Literary Fund promoting Hungarian literature.

The book launch was followed by a concert of Petőfi poems musical adaptation by Tamás “Rye” Rozs and János Háy. Some translators recited the poems translated by them into Hindi. The programme was moderated by Dr. Margit Köves, Visiting Lecturer of Hungarian Language at University of Delhi.

The Audience enjoyed the musical presentation of Petőfi poems by Tamás and János, and the Hindi translations recited by the translators.
