PHOTOS: Harley-Davidson festival in Budapest – two bikers died
Harley-Davidson owners celebrated the 120th anniversary of the popular trademark in Budapest yesterday with a grande “pride march”. The meeting of the H-D bikers started on 22 June and will end today. Most festival programs take place in Budapest, around the Puskás Ferenc Stadium.
According to telex.hu, bikers celebrate the anniversary not only in Budapest but also with tours to Dobogókő, the Cserhát, the Hungarian Great Plains, the Vértes Mountains and the Danube Bend. As a result, traffic on the roads leading to these destinations may be increased even today.
One of the partakers, a 62-year-old man, died on 23 June after colliding with a car on the M1 motorway. Here is a photo:
After that, another serious accident happened. Because of a traffic jam, a driver swerved and collided with bikers. One fell under the vehicle, while three poeple bumped into the car. A middle-aged woman suffered life-threatening damages, while three men were transferred to hospital with spine injuries. Furthermore, another H-D owner bumped into a fire hydrant and died immediately.
Meanwhile, the Budapest ambulance service expressed gratitude towards two Austrian bikers, who created a safe path on the Buda lower embankment yesterday, vezess.hu wrote.
Not only Hungarians but also foreigners took part in march in Budapest. Most of them came from Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Here are some photos of yesterday’s march:

The event proved that filing 6,000 bikers through Budapest is not something that can be done without danger to the participants and to the residents of the city. Rallies are held in Sturgis, USA. Four people died in 2021. In 2022 three died and 50 were injured. In some years more than 10 bikers were killed in crashes there. The event in Budapest has been very disruptive to residents and has brought a lot of unwelcome noise. The city of Budapest really needs to consider whether it wants to continue to host this kind of life dangerous event for the purpose of generating tourism revenue.
