Katalin Szili, the prime ministerial commissioner for Hungarian communities abroad, underlined the importance of continued dialogue about the issue of autonomy and the protection of minority rights at a conference in Comrat, the capital city of Moldova’s Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia.

Szili told MTI on Friday that she addressed the conference held to mark the 28th anniversary of the law on Gagauzia’s autonomy. She said she told the event that a dialogue about autonomy and the protection of national minorities were key to self-administration and self-governance.

“Stability in the world, and especially in Europe, can only be ensured if the rights of minorities, including their rights to their culture, language, education and traditions, are observed,” said the commissioner. In a post on Facebook, Szili said the conference was attended by Gagauz and Moldovan top officials, as well as politicians, diplomats and experts from Türkiye, Britain and several other countries.
