Cutting-edge super hospital to be built in Budapest – PHOTOS

Superhospital Budapest

Hungary has recently launched a new development program called Egészséges Budapest Program (Healthy Budapest Program) that will change the scene of Hungarian healthcare. The development promises utopistic hospitals where doctors are assisted by robots and patients receive top-notch healing services.

The Healthy Budapest super development program will cost over 700 billion forints (€ 1.945 billion). The program will radically change the future of Hungarian healthcare, including hospitals, by modernising and restructuring the healthcare infrastructure of Hungary’s capital city, Magyarépítők says.

As part of the development plan, several clinics and hospitals will be renewed and expanded as well as four new ultramodern central hospitals will be built. One of these cutting-edge designs is the Dél-budai Centrumkórház, or South Buda Central Hospital (DBC). According to Róbert J. Bedros, senior advisor of the project, this project will be the “development of the century”.

According to Magyarépítők, the South Buda Central Hospital will be built in district XI. of Budapest in the Dobogó area. The fully equipped hospital will provide healthcare services for the over 1.2 million residents of Budapest including people living in the agglomeration and in the neighbouring counties.

If everything goes according to plan, the cornerstone of the building will be placed during spring time in 2022 and the construction work will be completed by 2026.

Róbert J. Bedros, the senior advisor of the project gave an interview to Origo in which he told more details about the construction of the sci-fi like hospital which is currently in its development phase.

What will it include?

Bedros said that it is going to be one of the most sophisticated buildings in Hungary to date. The hospital will utilise state-of-the-art healthcare technologies, will be built with the latest architectural solutions, and will have the largest floorspace (five football fields) in the country.

He also added that robots will assist the hospital staff in several fields. They will do menial tasks such as carrying the laundry, food, and equipment from one place to another. In addition, robot assistants will also bolster the working staff by monitoring patients, recording data to the electronic medical report, and alerting professionals when needed, Bedros said.

He also talked about robot surgeons which can assist the doctors’ work.

Although they still require a person to guide them, he said, this cutting-edge equipment could eliminate human error as well as enhance the surgeons’ capabilities by performing complicated procedures such as prenatal surgeries. Bedros said that they would like to build a special operating room for intrauterine procedures.

A.I. will help to record patients when they arrive at the hospital and, thanks to these technological devices, medical education can also reach higher levels in the institution. They plan on utilising modern technologies so that students will be able to watch procedures on large screens while asking questions from the operating team.

Bedros also told Origo that they will also bear medical education in mind by reserving some rooms for educational practises.

“Our prospective colleagues will be able to tackle such professional challenges by using our facilities’ top-notch technologies that it will give them a priceless competitive edge for their future career.”

One of the most iconic bridges in Hungary to be renovated by the end of 2021

Hungary, Hortobágy, Nine Arched Bridge, bridge

Hungary is rich in both natural and man-made wonders, with many having decades or centuries, if not thousands of years of history behind them. But, unfortunately, nothing can stop the ravages of time, a fact that has now caught up with the gem of Hortobágy.

Hortobágy is probably one of the more well-known regions of Hungary for foreigners. It has a rich culture, history, and sights that have been preserved for centuries. However, one of the most iconic man-made structures of the area is in bad shape.

History

The iconic Nine-arched Bridge was finished in 1832 after Debrecen allowed the previous wooden bridge structure to be demolished and made anew from stone, writes Travelo. The construction of the bridge you now know started in 1825 using the design of Ferenc Povolny.

According to Sokszínűvidék, with its 167.3-metre length, the Nine-arched Bridge is the longest stone bridge not only in Hungary but also in Europe.

The legend

According to legends, the bridge has nine arches because when Sándor Rózsa, the most famous Hungarian betyár, was drinking at a bar, the lawmen came to take him away. In order to save Sándor, his nine mistresses created a bridge from their bodies to help the betyár escape through the Hortobágy river, said mayor Ádám Jakab.

Hortobágy is among the top 25 destinations in the world according to National Geographic

Renovation

Ádám Jakab, the mayor of Hortobágy, also told Dehír that the current renovations might be completed by the end of this year.

“The goal is the aesthetic renovation of the bridge. We will renovate both parapets of the bridge, as well as the plaster on both exterior sides. Where needed, the cracks will also be filled. We hope that the weather will be gracious, and we can finish the renovation this year.”

The current renovation is carried out by the Hungarian Public Roads with the support of the Ministry of Innovation and Technology.

During the renovation, only half of the road will be usable, with mobile traffic lights regulating vehicles, the mayor said.

Ádám Jakab, the mayor of Hortobágy, also told Haon that they have plans for a much larger project concerning the iconic bridge and that they are looking forward to a more complex renovation.

The mayor asked for people’s patience and apologised for any inconvenience that might come from the current traffic limitation.

The stone lions of the iconic Budapest Chain Bridge are being renovated! – PHOTOS

Chain Bridge Lions Lánchíd Oroszlánok

The restoration of one of the most iconic bridges of Budapest has started back in the middle of June this year, and it is expected to be finished by 2023.

The Chain Bridge is one of the most iconic and well-known bridges in Hungary, in no small part thanks to its gigantic bridgeheads guarding the bridge against evildoers.

According to Hellómagyar, these massive stone beasts are having a make-over, and restorers have been working on the ornate lions for months now. According to the plans, the lions will reconquer their royal spots in December 2022.

The lion of the Chain Bridge was lifted — VIDEO, PHOTOS

Renovating the iconic lions – which even hide an urban legend – is taking so long because of how carefully and meticulously the restorers are working on them. They have to assess their condition, clean their surface, fix the damage and discolourations, disinfect them, and try to find previously fixed spots.

To find where restorers might have put in filling materials before, the experts have to use hammers and listen to the sound of the material. They will then produce a detailed map of the imperfections.

Before the lions can be taken into a workshop to fix the cracks and broken-off parts, they have to be cleaned outdoors. For broken-off parts, the restorers might make carbon fibre joints, for example, in the case of their teeth.

Cubic metres worth of bird droppings, thousands of locks collected from the Chain Bridge!

The restorers can only add elements to the statues that can be proven to have existed before, and they also need to preserve some of the marks of time. They cannot just make the statues anew.

The lions from the Pest side are already in a workshop, but the other half are still waiting to be cleaned. Because of the cold weather, they need to wait until spring to be cleaned. Until then, they will spend the winter outdoors.

Interestingly, the lions each weigh over 12 tonnes. They are made up of three blocks of limestone that weigh 2.8, 5.5, and 4.3 tonnes respectively.

Good news! Renovation of the Chain Bridge is going as planned – PHOTOS!

Experts are continuously working on the renovation of the Chain Bridge, Centre for Budapest Transport says. According to plans, the modernisation of this iconic piece will be finished by 2023.

The renovation is currently at the following stages:

  • The chains’ protection against rust and the installation of new steel plates is ongoing.
  • The old, reinforced concrete is being demolished.
  • Between the pillars, new steel structures are being built under the sidewalks.
  • The new structure of the underpass is getting filled with concrete.

New bridge will be built in Budapest

railway

Another major investment will make transport easier in Budapest. The bridge will affect traffic in a very positive way, making it faster and easier.

Hello Magyar wrote about a new bridge that will be built in Budapest. The works have not started yet. As of now, only the planning phase of the project has been completed. Once the bridge is built, it will make traffic more predictable and easier as well. The bridge does not have an official name yet.

Right now, freight on railways go from west to east through Budapest, on the Összekötő (connecting) railway bridge. This creates a logistics issue between Ferencváros and Kelenföld. That is why new developments are being considered and the idea of a new bridge came to be.

read also: The wealthiest Hungarian builds railway in Budapest for ten times the average price

The new bridge will make traffic easier and more predictable. Vehicles will be able to stay on schedule, even in the case of unforeseen circumstances like accidents or weather changes. The bridge will mainly benefit the transport of people.

“If trains cross one another’s paths, one has to wait for the other to pass. It is easy to see that freight trains are the biggest disadvantage for suburban trains, as they tend to be longer and significantly harder to accelerate than passenger trains,” Dávid Vitézy wrote in a Facebook post. This issue will be solved by building the new bridge.

The railway on the new bridge will be above five other railway lines, thus making it easier for trains transporting people to stay on schedule. This way, the trains do not have to wait for freights. Traffic will be possible in both directions.

The new bridge will be “used to ‘lift’ passenger trains mainly over freight trains so that certain trains will be able to run there at the same time without crossing one another’s paths,” Vitézy explains.

The bridge was designed by architects, pontooners, and the chief architect of Budapest also took part in the planning of the bridge. The bridge will have an asymmetric design, with support pillars placed where they will have space for them. With ramps and other structures, the total length will be 839 metres.

The process of getting permission has started. The tender for the construction is expected to be announced next year.

Budapest’s first “skyscraper” to be completed soon! – PHOTOS+VIDEO

MOL Campus

The construction of the 143-meter-high MOL Campus started in October 2019. Since then, the project has posed various architectural, mechanical and design challenges. Budapest’s first skyscraper is scheduled to be handed over by autumn 2022. Still, the project strongly divides the local population. The question is: does it beautify or damage the panorama of Budapest?

The construction of the 143-meter-high MOL Campus is realised in the vicinity of the popular green oasis of Budapest, the Kopaszi Dam. The first stones were laid in October 2019, and since then, the project has posed various architectural, mechanical and design challenges. This is partly due to the particular shape of the building: it has a twice-curved surface. This surface had to be traced by both the glass and the supporting aluminium structure to make the connections airtight and watertight.

MOL Campus
Photo: www.facebook.com/molcampus/

In addition, the shape of the building has been modified several times during the construction in order to make the interior areas interconnect and transparent. Accordingly, in the tower, there will be spaces connected by a high gallery, a conservatory and a floating staircase on three levels, thus helping the internal communication of the organisational units located on different levels.

Mol Campus2
Photo: www.facebook.com/molcampus/

The skyscraper will be a real, inspiring community space to the employees of the Hungarian multinational oil and gas company, MOL Plc. This is one of the reasons why

the 143-meter-high tower bears the name “MOL Campus” which in addition to vertical campuses, also provides space for community workspaces (library, office garden, skylab).

Despite the extra height of the skyscraper, its stability is guaranteed. Gergely Baumann, technical director of the contractor Market Építő Plc. revealed that a solid structure ensures the strength of the high tower: the two reinforcing concrete shaft cores serve as the backbone of the building, which are surrounded by ten concrete circular pillars. The tower structure stands on a 2.2-meter-thick base plate into which 4,400 m3 of concrete have been poured. This stable structure strongly protects the tower in case of an oscillation or earthquake. Continuous measurements have also verified these.

Mol Campus5
Photo: www.facebook.com/molcampus/

Opinions on the construction of the Budapest skyscraper are strongly divided.

As the Hungarian news portal Telex reports, the tower block will have 28 levels. On the top of the building, there will be a rooftop terrace protected from the wind by a glazed steel structure raised to a height of 23 meters. The terrace will be open from above. In addition to offices, the skyscraper will provide space for a fitness room, restaurant, canteen with balcony, bicycle storage, hall and a reception area. There are 21 elevators in the two buildings, plus two fire elevators, which do not stop even in the event of a fire. The elevators run at a speed of 18 km/h, which means that they reach the roof terrace in half a minute from the ground floor.

Mol Campus6
Photo: www.facebook.com/molcampus/

According to the designers, “the skyscraper fits into the architectural image of Budapest while creating new architectural value”. However, UNESCO consultants think that the tower has a detrimental effect on the architecture of Budapest, which damages the world heritage panorama of the Hungarian capital. This can be experienced mainly by walking on the Margaret Bridge, from where the Mol Tower stands out high among the domes of the Basilica and the Parliament, as well as the Gellért Hill and the Buda Castle World Heritage Sites.

Many locals agree that the MOL Campus does not fit into the panorama of Budapest. They express their opposition in social media, collecting and posting photos of the 143-meter-high skyscraper visible from several other viewpoints of the city. Nevertheless, the construction of the MOL tower seems to comply with all regulations. Presumably, the building will be handed over by autumn 2022.

State to finish Budapest’s Biodome in the City Park

Biodome Budapest construction
The city of Budapest has offered property rights of the Biodome, now under construction in the City Park, to the Hungarian state in return for the government completing the contested project.

The Biodome, presenting life in the Carpathian Basin millions of years ago, is a project on the territory of the Budapest Zoo in the City Park.

Erzsébet Gy. Németh, one of the city’s deputy mayors, told a press conference on Wednesday that the government had not been responding since March to appeals for state funding to finish the construction, despite the city’s offering to run the facility once it was completed.

The city has no sufficient resources to complete the project “due to the government’s austerity measures”, Gy. Németh said, adding that the government had initiated and so far financed construction. The city maintains its offer to provide animals and plants and run the facility, she said.

“Since 2013, the state has invested 44 billion forints (EUR 121m) into the construction of Biodome for the completion of which an additional 15-20 billion forints would be needed,” Gy. Németh said.

If the state accepts to take over the property rights of Biodome, it would take about ten months to prepare the contract on the transfer, she said.

Roland Szabó, the operative director of Budapest Zoo, said that the construction of the Biodome had been completed in October 2020. He said since that time only operational tests have been carried out in the building and a plan of the facility’s full installation has been completed.

Number of insolvencies rising in construction and tourism sector!

restaurant-cook-chef-food
The number of corporate insolvencies in Hungary is expected to climb by 20 percent this year, edging over 5,150, according to an analysis by credit insurer Euler Hermes.

Tünde Bujdosó, in charge of risk management at Euler Hermes, said the number of insolvencies in the first half rose by 18 percent from the same period a year earlier.

She noted that the number of insolvencies is still lower this year than in 2019, thanks to the faster-than-expected global economic recovery, economic stimulus in Hungary and a quicker return to normalcy in the country because of the high inoculation rate.

However, some sectors remain exposed: the number of insolvencies in the tourism and catering industry reached 190 in the first half, up 36 percent from the same period in 2019; and the number of insolvencies in the construction sector climbed by 40 percent from the same period a year earlier.

Euler Hermes expects higher feedstock prices, the chip shortage, supply chain interruptions and pressure to make technology investments will boost the number of insolvencies among local automotive industry suppliers.

The wealthiest Hungarian builds railway in Budapest for ten times the average price

southern connectin railway bridge

The execution of the Ferencváros-Kelenföld railway track will cost net EUR 936.7 million that will be carried out by V-Híd Építő Plc., directly owned by the richest Hungarian, Lőrinc Mészáros. According to experts, the Southern Railway Bypass has become a tenfold overpriced project.

Hungary’s busiest railway line can be found between Ferencváros and Kelenföld. Besides the two 100-year-old existing tracks, the Hungarian government would increase the capacity by an additional track here. The project’s first step was the expansion of the Southern Railway Connecting Bridge that will be completed soon. The next phase is the construction of the missing six-kilometre-long rail track. However, the railway traffic on the other two tracks must be maintained because, without it, the railway transport in the whole country would literally stop. Therefore, the project is not easy to carry out.

As the Hungarian news portal, Népszava reports, what is even more surprising is that

the execution will cost net EUR 936.7 million and will be carried out by V-Híd Építő Plc., directly owned by the richest man in Hungary, Lőrinc Mészáros.

The company had only one rival in the public procurement with an offer of EUR 160 million per kilometre. But eventually, V-Híd Építő Plc., directly owned by Lőrinc Mészáros, won first place in the public procurement for EUR 155.6 million per kilometre.

As the Hungarian news portal 168.hu reports, it is questionable how genuine the competition actually is in two-player procurement. According to corruption-researchers, we can only talk about substantive competition in public procurement with four or five participants. Still, it is striking that no foreign company has submitted a bid for such a contract.

Some engineer experts say the Southern Railway Bypass has become a tenfold overpriced project.

This provoked the outrage of opposition politicians, according to whom the government should not conclude this “cheekily overpriced” contract and cancel the public procurement immediately.

The Hungarian economic news portal G7 has aggregated major international rail projects in recent years. In unit cost, none is comparable to the current price:

a Munich railway tunnel for EUR 105.6 million per kilometre was the most expensive, but even one kilometre of the domestic four-meter metro came out of EUR 85.6 million. The overpricing of domestic projects is well indicated by the fact that the high-speed TGV line between Tours-Bordeaux is being built for an amount equivalent to EUR 11 million per kilometre, also cheaper than the Budapest-Belgrade railway, which is technically simpler and designed for significantly lower speeds.

This is how the Hungarian pavilion looks at Expo 2020 Dubai – VIDEO

Dubai World Expo Hungarian Pavilion Night

This year, for the first time in world expo history, every participating country will have its own pavilion. The opening ceremony takes place on Thursday, 30 September, and the first full day of the expo will also be celebrated with spectacular fireworks.

Since 1851, when the first World Expo – the Great Exhibition – was held in London, World Expos have provided an international platform to discuss the pressing challenges of our time and showcase the nations’ greatest innovations. World Expos can be considered one of the most substantial global economic and cultural events besides the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup.

Held between 1 October 2021 and 31 March 2022, the Expo 2020 Dubai is special for two reasons:

it is the largest global event organised since the start of the pandemic and the first world fair to be held in the Middle East.

According to the press release issued by the staff of Expo 2020, this year’s expo will display the most spectacular music and cultural performances in world expo history, built around the three main themes of opportunity, sustainability, and mobility. Sustainability is integrated into every aspect of the event, for example, renewable energy systems with a combined total capacity of 5.5 megawatts are installed on all permanent building projects across the Expo site, and only sustainable materials were used during construction.

The opening ceremony of this “visually stunning and emotionally inspiring event” features the biggest names in the music and entertainment industry, including the world-famous tenor Andrea Bocelli, Grammy-nominated and Golden-Globe-winning actress, singer, and songwriter Andra Day, platinum-selling British singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding, international megastar pianist Lang Lang, and four-time Grammy winner Angelique Kidjo, explained director of event management Tárek Goseh.

The Hungarian pavilion is located within the expo’s Mobility section, and

it will host more than 35 cultural events during the 24 weeks of the expo. Visitors can also browse hand-crafted products, try Hungarian dishes, and taste Hungary’s rightfully famous mineral waters,

writes Helló Magyar.

According to the official website of the Hungarian pavilion, Hungaryexpo2020, the architecture of the pavilion is strongly linked to the spiritual legacy of Imre Makovecz, and the unique building with timber structure was designed by Makovecz’s former student, the Miklós Ybl Prize-awarded Lőrinc Csernyus. The central element of the pavilion is water since Hungary has a vast variety of unique medicinal and thermal water resources. The central theme of the permanent exhibition will be the presentation of Hungary’s medicinal and thermal waters and their beneficial health effects. The Hungarian pavilion is special for another reason:

it is the only wooden construction in the whole region that Time Out listed among the 15 coolest pavilions of the Dubai Expo.

Spectator stand of the stadium in Nyíregyháza unexpectedly collapsed – PHOTOS, VIDEO

Nyíregyháza Stadium Collapse

On Saturday, the citizens of Nyíregyháza were scared by a sudden, extremely loud rumbling that resembled an earthquake.

According to ATV, it turned out that the main spectator stand in the Nyíregyháza stadium had unexpectedly collapsed. Several people living in the vicinity were so scared, the firefighters’ line was busy.

Luckily, the first responders did not have to intervene as no one was injured, but many people, even from farther away in the city, complained about the eardrum-busting rumble.

There has been ongoing construction work in the stadium as part of a project that aimed to renew the stadium of Nyíregyháza. Still, locals said that no one notified them about the upcoming demolition, nor they were told to expect the noise.

Tragic bus accident on M7: 8 dead, 8 severe, 40 light injuries! – PHOTOS, UPDATED

According to the Hungarian Disaster Management authorities, the collapse of the main spectator stand was conducted as part of a planned demolition. Still, a local representative of an opposition party said that the part of the stadium that collapsed should have been included in the new building, reported Szeretlekmagyarország.

The development of the Nyíregyháza football facility is implemented within the framework of the National Stadium Development Program with the support of the Hungarian Government. The new stadium would look like this:

According to Nyíregyháza.hu, the BMSK Zrt. was approximately on schedule, maybe a week late as it was said that the company would start the demolition of the large metal and concrete structure elements on the third week of the construction, which began around early September.

They also said the following: “The contractor will carry out the noise inducing activities on working days, as promised, paying special attention to the observance of noise and vibration protection regulations and the uninterrupted operation of road traffic.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0TmbVCuuq8

Due to the unusual time of the demolition, which happened at 7 p.m. on Saturday, contrary to the contactor’s promise, and the fact that the residents were not notified about the noise and the demolition beforehand suggests that the collapse of the western spectator stand was inadvertent or maybe a mishap.

Several locals who noticed the collapse of the spectator stand have recorded footage of the events. The lack of construction personnel and machinery might further suggest that the failure was unintentional.

ATV tried to contact the city hall and the construction’s investor about the unexpected events, but none has reached out to the news portal to publish their article.

Fortunately, no one was hurt during the incident.

Székesfehérvár could launch new ice rink stadium project this year

Alba Aréna Székesfehérvár 4

The latest developments concern Székesfehérvár with a much-appreciated project. The construction of a new and modern multifunctional stadium could already star this year.

According to Székesfehérvár.hu, the Hungarian Government has decided to launch a new project that would greatly increase the livelihood of many workers in Székesfehérvár, as well as create a much-needed place for cultural and sports events for the locals and for people nearby.

András Cser-Palkovics, mayor of Székesfehérvár and Tamás Vargha member of the parliament have announced the starting of the project in a Facebook post. In the video they said that it will greatly benefit the entire city and will fulfil an old dream of the city, as they have been wanting a new ice rink for the city’s hockey team.

The other important factor in the project is the fact that a new connecting road will be built through the Alba Industrial Zone between Seregélyesi and Budai út, they said.

Brand new Hungarian-developed electric buses have arrived — PHOTOS

The entire project will be financed by the state, reports Telex. The stadium will have permanent ice installed in it to fulfil its primary function as an ice rink, but it will be able to house several types of events.

According to Proalbaregia.hu, the ice can be covered and used for other types of events, such as conferences, meetings, cultural events, concerts and many types of sports events other than only ice hockey.

The mayor added that people in Székesfehérvár will no longer need to travel to Budapest, Veszprém or Győr to be able to attend such large-scale events.

The project could be finished a little over two years and will also include necessary rooms for such a stadium to operate such as restaurants and buffets, offices, meeting rooms and some multifunctional rooms as well.

It is estimated that the stadium capable of hosting events for 6,000 people will have a base cost of around 32 billion forints (€ 91.4 million).

Together with the optional items and an additional 8% reserve, the project will altogether cost a net 35 billion forints (€ 100 million). This includes the connecting road and public utility connections as well, Székesfehérvár.hu reports.

The new station is expected to have a lot of traffic and also decrease transport by cars. The project could start next summer and be finished by 2024.

According to what he wrote, passengers of the Hatvan and Újszász-Szolnok railway lines (S80, Z80, S60, Z60) will be able to pass to trams 1, 37, 28, and 62 from the new station, or go to bus 9. The Museum of Transport, the surrounding residential areas, the Eiffel Hall of the Opera House, the Nándor Hidegkuti Stadium, and the northern part of Népliget will also be easy to get to once the new station is built. Bicycle stands will be placed at the station as well – 120 regulars and 30 that can be locked.

New, 36-hectare urban green oasis to be built in Budapest! – PHOTOS

csepel_park

The suburbs of the Hungarian capital will be expanded with a new green park which will be opened in the 21st district of Budapest. In addition to its environmental role, the 36-hectare urban green oasis is also significant, as no new public park of more than 20 hectares has been established in Budapest in the last 50 years.

Dávid Vitézy, the CEO of the Budapest Development Centre, announced on Facebook that the contract had been signed with the construction company (s73 Construction Studio). A 36-hectare park will be established on the North Csepel archipelago, next to Soroksár-Danube. The CEO also added that the 36-hectare urban green oasis is a very significant development, as no new public park of more than 20 hectares has been established in Budapest in the last 50 years.

As Hungarian news portal Telex reports, the public park will include

gallery forest next to the Danube, extensive rest areas and clearings, hiking and cycling paths, promenades, wooded groves, community sports fields (outdoor fitness park, climbing wall, skate park, multifunctional sports fields, treadmill), community gardens, playgrounds, and wetland.

The latter is an entirely new element, a water management system whose function is to collect the rainwater falling on the surrounding areas, roads, and roofs, and then drain the excess into the Soroksár-Danube by passing it through a natural filter layer. Accordingly, it can be avoided that the green areas – which often do not get enough moisture – dry out or need artificial irrigation.

Its further environmental role is to provide natural wetlands for many plant and animal species, thereby increasing the biodiversity of the area. In addition, it plays an important role in improving the urban microclimate, and its evaporating effect contributes to the reduction of urban heat islands. According to preliminary ideas, in the middle lane of the public park, which is slightly lower than the surrounding areas, the water surface interwoven with plants would meander along from south to north, in an area of about 3 hectares. It will be up to the designer to work out in detail exactly how water management works in the wetland in both rainy and dry weather, writes the post.

The preparatory work for the park started four years ago. Since then, a high-quality master plan was drawn up in the summer of 2020, with the involvement of experts from the capital and district municipalities and a number of recognised experts who designated the location, use, approach, internal road network, and typical land-use units and main functions of the planned new public park.

The post also points out that the establishment of new parks in Budapest is indispensable, as there have been fewer and fewer tidy, well-functioning green spaces since the change of regime. Therefore, the expansion of urban parks is of primary importance.

The post also reveals that in the 19th century, the city’s designers dreamed of a green stripe surrounding today’s city centre in the form of a ring. On the Buda side, it has been realised with the Buda Hills; however, from Óbuda to the Pest side to South Buda, this green ring could not be implemented in a coherent way, only large parks, such as Margaret Island, City Park as part of the Budapest Liget project, and Népliget are lined up separately in this curve.

The Csepel public park fits into this system logically, and it will be an important green area of the South Budapest region.

Meanwhile, another project has reached a milestone in the 21st district of Budapest. At the beginning of September, within the framework of the construction of the National Athletics Stadium, the H7 (Csepel) HÉV track was rebuilt on a section in order to take a new route to the facility.

During the works, the old freight underpass was demolished, and a new, 40-metre-long railway bridge was built, which will also function as the new pedestrian main entrance to the Stadium, as well as a 14.5-metre-long railway bridge (Kvassay subway), which will get motor traffic to the Stadium area.

As Magyar Építők reports, within the framework of the construction, new railway tracks were laid on the 500-metre section of the double track, a new crushed stone bed was laid, a new overhead line was built, new optical cables were installed, the interlocking cable was replaced, and a new fence was built.

Budapest’s Bosnyák square will be renewed by Zaha Hadid

Budapest architect

Interesting and spectacular pictures of the reconstruction of one of the busiest squares of Budapest came to light. The images can be linked to the world-famous architectural firm, Zaha Hadid Architects.

According to the developer’s website, the complex in the centre of Bosnyák square can be completed in six steps. The investment will be implanted on an area of 6.7 hectares behind Bosnyák square. Bosnyák square is one of the major areas of the 14th district of Budapest. The investment offers many opportunities for the residents of both the district and the Hungarian capital. The goal of the developer is to create a world-famous office. In doing so, they try to define the image of the area.

Filling a new city centre is one of the main goals.

This includes many business opportunities. “We are planning a city in the city, a meeting place with identity, diversity, an internal promenade protected from the noise of the city. The services and commercial functions are located along the busy Csömöri road, and the residential area is located in the quieter Bosnyák street,” according to Bayer Property’s website.

Previously, there was a similar plan, but then the construction authority prevented the plans, writes epiteszforum.hu. The status of the project is currently under planning, so previous visual designs are subject to change.

A building complex consisting of a hotel, a condominium and a casino is being built on the banks of the Danube.

During the investment of Market Építő Zrt., BDPST Group and Cretum, the protected parts of several listed buildings will be preserved, writes magyarepitök.hu. Hotel Dorothea is located in the 5th district of Budapest, near Vörösmarty square and Vigadó. The architectural design of the plan and the interior design will be done by the Italian Lisson & Partners. As a first step, the necessary demolition work was carried out. They then built the cellar to a depth of 15 metres.

Construction has many challenges.

The contractor connects buildings from three different architectural eras. The existing buildings were built 10-20 years apart, resulting in different structural designs. Thus, the restoration and conversion works must conform to the structure of the particular building.

Lónyai-Hatvany Villa Budapest Inauguration 1

Gergely Gulyás, the prime minister’s chief of staff, inaugurated the refurbished headquarters of the Batthyány Lajos Foundation, the Lónyai-Hatvany Villa in the Buda Castle, on Friday.

“It is important to have a conservative Christian base with a vision for the future that can define the national strategic objectives without which governing would lose meaning,” Gulyás said in his address.

The Batthyány Foundation was set up in 1991 at the initiative of then-prime minister József Antal, Hungary’s first democratically elected prime minister after the 1989/90 change of regime.

Gulyás praised the foundation, saying that it had always served as a base supporting a variety of organisations of public life and their programmes, while it had also served as “an intellectual basis supporting the civic political wing” and had been instrumental in strengthening that side.

“This refurbished building stands as a due appreciation of the foundation’s work in public life,” he said.

The villa was built at the initiative of Menyhért Lónyai, finance minister in 1870 and prime minister in 1871-72, according to the design of eminent architect Miklós Ybl. It was purchased by painter and art collector Ferenc Hatvany in 1915.

Following the purchase of the building, he moved into it his collection of 800 art pieces, mainly paintings, sculptures and furniture. The collection was even admired by Thomass Mann, Travelo says.

The most prized pieces of the collection were the works of French impressionists and Spanish avant-garde artists. According to Urbface, during WWII, most of the art pieces were taken to Germany, Russia, and the US and today they are being exhibited in many museums all around the world. Unfortunately, the building was mostly destroyed in a bombing in 1944 and have been demolished after the war.

The building have been authentically reconstructed according to the plans of József Kerényi and the inner spaces were designed by famous interior designers Japanese Tadao Ando and English Ilse Crawford.

The renovation began in 2000.

nyugati_railway_station4

Today, the passenger hall of the Nyugati Railway Station has reopened, awaiting travellers with renewed roof structure, modern digital information system and 14 double-decker trains in the metropolitan agglomeration.

Due to its technical condition and the preservation of its monumental value, the reconstruction of the roof structure of the 144-year-old Nyugati railway station became urgent last year. The works started in the spring of 2020, as one of the key elements of MÁV’s station development project, with the complete closure of the passenger hall. Upon the completion of the roof structure and other renovation processes,

the passenger hall of the Nyugati Railway Station has been reopened today, where a modern digital information system and new end-of-track displays await the nearly 18 million passengers every year.

By the end of the summer, the first phase has been successfully completed, thanks to which travellers can enjoy a freshly renovated passenger hall of the Nyugati Railway Station. The first stunning photos have been published on the Facebook page of the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) who greeted the renovated hall with a KISS motor train, as from the end of the summer, another four such double-decker trains became available on the suburban lines, by which currently there are 14 in the metropolitan agglomeration.

As the Hungarian news portal Index reports, another curiosity of the newly renovated passenger hall is the new sensory drinking fountain named after St. Catherine of Alexandria – considered the patron saint of railwaymen. From now on, passengers can quench their thirst from the fountain that commemorates the 175-year-old Hungarian railway.

Based on current plans, the accessibility of disabled and elderly people plays a prominent role in the renovation project.

Accordingly, smart tactile guidance and danger lanes will be developed for blind and partially sighted passengers first in the track hall until 2022, then along with the platforms outside the hall, then in the crossway and side hall. The purpose of the smart solution is to provide audio information – that can be sensible with a foot or a smart stick – on safety transport flows, possible obstacles and emergencies. The user of the system, equipped with Bluetooth, touches the tread to detect radio signals from the labels and transmits the information to a mobile phone application that reads the instructions to them. Nyugati Railway Station is the third to apply the smart solution in Europe, following railway stations in Belgium and Italy.
