This is how much money tourists spend in Hungary

Interesting statistics have been revealed about how much money foreign travellers spent in Hungary in 2018, and how much Hungarian spent during their trips abroad. Foreigners spent over 6 billion Euros here last year during the 130 million days they spent here in Hungary.

Portfolio reports that in 2018, tourists spent 130 million days in our small country, and they spent 6.6 billion Euros during that time.

1.7 billion Euros out of this 6.6. billion came from one-day trips, and 4.9 billion Euros came from travels that lasted more days. Hungarians spent 2.8 billion Euros on things and services they needed in connection with their travels.

The number of arrivals increased by 4.9%, while the number of departures increased by 12% in 2018, according to statistics by KSH.

In 2018, foreigners visited Hungary 58 million times, which is 4.9% higher than in 2017.

The vast majority of visits (70%) were one-day-trips, and most of them were registered in the third quarter of the year.

10 million people came here to shop, which takes up 25% of all one-day-trips. 17 million people were transients, 5 million people came here to leisure, 1.4 million people came here to work, and 1.3 million people came here on business.

The number of trips lasting several days increased by 11%. Most of the people who stayed here for more than one day came to leisure, have fun, go sightseeing, or visit family and friends.

Travellers who decided to spend only a day in Hungary last year spent an average of 50 Euros, which is 7.9% more than in 2017. People who decided to stay here a little while longer spent an average of 55 Euros per day, which is 7.4% more than a year before.

Hungarian took 22.8 million trips and spent altogether 62 million days abroad in 2018, which is 8.7% higher than in 2017. 14.2 million of these were one-day trips (11% more than in 2017), and 8.6 million of them lasted more than one day (15% more than in 2017). People who took longer trips spent 5.6 days abroad on average. The number of one-day-trips increased the most in the first quarter of the year, by 17%. The number of several-day-long trips increased the most in the fourth quarter, by 24%.

Hungarian spent 2.8 billion Euros on different kinds of services and other things for their travels.

Hungarians spent more money during their trips abroad in 2018 than before: their spendings increased by 29% compared to 2017.
