Trump: PM Orbán is the ‘toughest man’ in Europe – VIDEO
“Viktor Orbán, the most respected man— probably the toughest man in Europe, maybe beyond Europe”, former President Donald Trump said in Iowa yesterday based on a video uploaded on X (Twitter).
Trump’s yesterday campaign raid took place in Iowa’s Mason City, where he praised Hungarian PM Orbán again. He said he was the most respected and the toughest man here.
Before, the former US president said Hungary had great luck by having Orbán. However, sometimes he did not know which country Orbán leads since he called him the great leader of Türkiye last October.
Orbán and Trump have developed a strong connection in the last few years. The big question is what experts regularly analyse: is it worth it?
In 2015, long before Trump won the nomination of the Republicans when he was only one of the many candidates, Orbán endorsed Trump. He was the first European leader to do so. However, after Trump’s victory, ice melted slowly between the USA and Hungary. For example, Trump met all the leaders of Central and Eastern Europe but left Orbán to be the last in that regard.
Since then, many things have changed. Budapest regularly hosts the CPAC, the American conservatives’ biggest annual gathering. Furthermore, Trump and Orbán met in person before the Dallas CPAC in 2022. Ever since Trump’s campaign restarted, he regularly praises Orbán in his speeches.
Trump has good chances to win back the White House this November. Of course, he will enter office only in January, and the administration change is even slower. Under the Biden era, the relationship between Hungary and America reached historic lows since the change of the regime in 1989-1990. For example, Washington terminated tax agreements unilaterally and introduced visa restrictions against Hungarian citizens. It might be symbolic but telling that even Bucharest, Romania’s capital, will have direct flights to the USA (or Canada), while Budapest does not.
Orbán risks and may win a lot if Trump becomes president again. But if Biden remains somehow, Hungary will be in an even worse position in the eyes of Washington. Or a foreign policy change will be inevitable, meaning even changing Hungary’s harsh anti-support position in Ukraine.

It’s true. Orban, for all his real and imagined flaws, is the only leader in Europe who actually stands against the globalist-socialist cabal and its wicked designs. The others are cookie-cutter nonentities: votaries of the post-national, post-democratic agenda or have been bought off.
Oh great, our Victor endorsed by a man with 91 felony counts, including trying to overthrow a government and massive fraud, as well as being found guilty of sexual assault. Now there are some Christian values there!
NOTHING has changed and History never LIES.
Hungary has a HISTORY of backing WRONG leaders of “other” country’s, that have a HISTORY of ending in cataclysmic DISASTERS.
WOW Trump misspoke . I assure you he knows where Orban is from along with 90million other Americans. If trump doesn’t win – the world is f—
Interesting the media here never mentions the role Biden played in Ukraine and the Obama people. Along with the millions in bribes from Romania -Ukraine – Russia and China, somehow that not a story. If you were paying attention the 2013 Ukraine and removing the elelected goverment was US – EU- NATO job and the US selected he new goverment by Victoria Nuland -who is now number 2 in the state dept. why are you acting surprised Putin pushed back. Your either dumb or don’t want the fact out. Hungarys foreign minister is probably even smarter than Orban. I saw him in a long interview on German media and was impressed long before I moved to Budapest – few others in the EU impressed me.
Steiner Michael – what a mouth FULL of WAFFLE / WAFFLE.
Did you have a personal cataclysmic explosion in the palm of your hand writing it /
Orban is tough like something plugging your system that you desperately need to pass and only laxatives will help.
No! No! No! – Trump was refering to Erdogan (again)! The Daft-Orange-Man-Baby was joking when he said “most respected….” (of Orban) – It was 100% irony – if he had understood what he was saying – especially as it involved words with more than two syllables. He understands ‘bigly’ though.
God help the EU in the second half of 2024 when it’s Hungary’s turn to take the leadership – that is if they can’t organise themselves to outmanoeuvre Orban.
Orban loves being stitched up by war-criminal Putin – when he’s paying so much more than he thought over Russian energy – and for radioactive isotopes for Paks II!
Watch out for some more bad deals with the building of PaksII – there’s plenty more sudden cost over runs and interest rate rises on that €10 billion loan from his criminal mate, Putin. There’s no way it will be built in this generation’s lifetime – but the loan will still have to be paid (as it already is!) to enable WC Putin (WC means ‘war criminal’, not toilet) to fund the Ukraine war (WAR!!) – which Orban is vicariously funding too – complicity between TWO war criminals.
So here’s a toast to ‘Michel’ in his bid to cut Orban and sidekick Szijjártó out of the EU leadership round. Fingers crossed!
Oh, and btw, I’m a bit disappointed that we’ve not had any new football stadium announcements from the new EU money coming Hungary’s way? Orban’s not sticking to his priorities in ensuring Hungary’s economy stays just above Bulgaria!
It’s too bad that the wokesters use this forum to vent their TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome). Please take it to sme other fake new outlet!
I vote Charlie H for one of the best posts I have seen.
Last night at the townhall on Fox, President Trump actually praised Prime Minister Orban. This is an absolutely strange action on the part of President Trump because He almost never said anything good about anyone.
Let us review Trump’s presidency. His policies enriched the American people. NATO members disliked him because he made EU countries to start paying for their own protection instead of forcing American taxpayers to pick up the bill. President Trump also did everything to keep out illegal migrants, the globalists hated this. During President Trump’s reign, no war started, Iran was almost bankrupt and unable to fund terrorism.
President Trump, like all good conservative leaders put the welfare of the American people first. Name one EU leader, other than Mr. Orban, that put the welfare of its citizens first. Well done President Trump and Prime Minister Orban.
@mariavontheresa – you sound as if you are a last gasp from the Austo-Hungarian empire!
However like a real Hungarian whose knowledge of the world is just so parochial – you don’t understand the threat to democracy that Trump presents. Many (most) Hungarians don’t understand even the basic principles of what a democracy requires because Orban doesn’t understand even the basic principles of what a democracy requires – as demonstrated by your post.
If you are Hungarian – or possibly Austrian – one would have thought that you would have got fed up with losing by now.
The best thing a Hungarian can do is decide who you want to lead your country – then do a complete volte face and vote for the opposition. Do a 180° turn – and you’ll find you’ll start to retrieve a half-decent society.
So stop admiring Trump, Hitler (Horthy’s mate), Orban, Putin, Chavez, and Xi Jungping- and aspire to a better world.
And you might find your economy starts to leap away from the languishing depths which you are sharing with Bulgaria!
Would someone please explain how President Trump threatens democracy?
In the US thousands of people had a hard time accepting the results of the previous election; these people realized that there were many inconsistencies and irregularities. Now, the number of cheaters’ action would not overturn the election still, it is hard to accept results when many results should not have been certified.
President Trump’s policies were pro American, the slogan Make America Great and the present slogan Make America Great again bode well for the future.
It is possible that many of you have not seen the Fox townhall or some of the President’s rallies. Mr. Trump is open about his future policies. None of the policies are anti-democratic. Energy efficiency, protected border, flourishing economy could only benefit every American.
As a North American, have followed our politics carefully. If you look at empirical data, EU socialist policies with unchecked illegal migration just impoverished the population and raised crime, especially against women.
Evaluate your circumstances and compare them to American people under the Trump Administration. Your answer will be obvious, conservative capitalism will always outperform Marxism and EU socialism.
Today, there was an article in this newspaper that most Hungarians still support the FIDESZ government. It is the pro national conservative policies that will eventually raise the standard of living. Hungarian have been too often betrayed by socialists who sell their soul, cede sovereignty to globalists and EU for a penny.
@mariavontheresa
Your post confirms your ignorance about what a democracy requires. And you clearly post from a position of a life of non-democracy – communism possibly.
Unfortunately I need much more space than available here – but here are the main points – many of which chime with Orban – which presumably you also worship?
1) Firstly Trump has already admitted he will be a ‘Dictator’ for a day as soon as he is installed – meaning he will take undemocratic revenge on all those who, for example, voted for his two impeachments
2) He installed two – or three – very right-wing judges to the Supreme Court. This has become so unbalanced – a responsibility of the incumbent – that judgements have become undemocratic. For example it has reversed Roe v Wade – which was mainly decided by men. Women have been excluded from a decision which involves a very important and basic function of their existence. The principle here relating to democracy – is that the legislature must be completely independent from politics generally. And tell that to Orban.
3) Trump clearly has never accepted that he didn’t win the last presidential election. The many corrupt attempts, for example, to persuade Georgia to find votes was a blatant corruption of democracy – as was the victimisation of vote workers.
4) The many attempts to not accept his responsibility to hand over power to in incoming president is self evident that he rejects democracy – which chimes with Orban’s efforts to ‘restrict’ ‘parliament’ – in Hungary. Parliamentary democracy as ‘moulded’ by Orban has resulted in no democracy at all.
5) The media in a democracy must be free and uninfluenced. His domination of Fox news by Hannity and others demonstrates his willingness to propogandize, rather than debate in the US bicameral parliamentary system. This signals that he believes his ‘rhetoric’ and opinions are not equal to his peers. Operating by ‘decree’ is the sign of a wannabe dictator rather than a democratic debater. In parallel Orban’s legislation is 90% initiated by private members bills. This is not parliamentary democracy either.
4) Trumps many many court cases – in cahoots with his henchman Guliani – which attempted to overturn the people’s votes – shows he’s not prepared to accept democracy.
5) If Trump succeeds for a second term – democracy will be just a shadow of itself as the Simpleton-Orange-Man-Baby bypasses most of the fragile controls which ensure democracy. And as Orban has already done. Orban’s control of the media – his anti-Semitic persecution of Soros and his family (by controlling all the advertising sites in Hungary)- his pathetic ‘consultations’ with his snail-mail postings containing outrageous leading questions and family corruption, in robbing Hungary blind, do not demonstrate a commitment to democracy. Hence Trump’s admiration for Trump.
I had better close now – but I could continue for days! But that’s just for starters.
