Ukrainian mother drowns in a lake with her six-year-old daughter in Hungary
A 27-year-old mother and her 6-year-old daughter drowned in a mining pond on the weekend in the Boglárka Street in Máriakálnok.
The Mosonmagyaróvár Public Gazette reports that the victims were Ukrainian citizens living in Mosonmagyaróvár.
The press office of the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Police Headquarters said that the Mosonmagyaróvár Police Department had ruled out any suspicion of foreign origin and was investigating the circumstances of the incident in the framework of an administrative procedure.
Victims were Ukrainian citizens
The mayor of Máriakálnok, Dr. Emma Tóásóné Gáspár, said, the mother and daughter, who were Ukrainian citizens, did not live locally, but in a nearby workers’ hostel in Mosonmagyaróvár.
The fishing lake is regularly used for bathing, although bathing is forbidden here, and a sign warns of this. The village leader, with whom we also visited the site, emphasised that the pond is only used by people who have been regularly visiting it.
So far, there were only a few worn, barely legible signs warning against bathing. Now we could see a freshly erected sign, in several languages, including Cyrillic, saying that this is private land and that it is forbidden to dip in the water, Kisalföld says.
Most of the mine lakes are notoriously closed to bathing, mainly because of the sudden drop and the fact that the water is often freezing cold, even in summer, although people often overlook the rules in the heat of the day.
They lived in a workers’ shelter
The mayor said that one of the bodies had been discovered by a fisherman, after which the body of the little girl was also found. According to our information, the 36-year-old father was also looking for his missing family members.
The family was living in a workers’ shelter in Mosonmagyaróvár, close to the tragic scene. They were working for a temporary employment agency as guest workers in Mosonmagyaróvár. They arrived shortly before the war.
