As we reported yesterday, PM Viktor Orbán shared former US president Donald Trump’s message about how US-Hungary relations will develop, if he becomes president again in 2024. The Biden-appointed US ambassador in Budapest, David Pressman, reacted to Orbán’s tweet.
A month ago, Fox News published an article quoting Orbán. In it, the Hungarian Prime Minister talked about how another Trump presidency could bring Hungarian-American relations back to the best level ever. The paper reached Trump, who wrote “Victor, so true!”. The Hungarian PM boasted about it yesterday and added that it’s always good to hear from Trump.
US Ambassador in Budapest, David Pressman, reacted to the Hungarian prime minister’s tweet hours later. He rebuked Orbán, saying that now is the time to boost the Hungary-US relationship since there is a war in Ukraine and Hungary faces economic challenges. Orbán has not responded yet and probably will not. One of his ministers or secretaries might share the government’s opinion about Ambassador Pressman’s thoughts later today.
With Hungary facing economic challenges and Vladimir Putin’s war on its doorstep, the time for a great US-HU relationship? Right now. https://t.co/idaYsIF2NQ— Ambassador David Pressman (@USAmbHungary) October 27, 2022
The Hungarian Prime Minister has been very active on Facebook for years. His page already has more than 1.2 million followers, while the number of Hungarian Facebook users cannot be much more than 15 million. That means he reaches almost 10 percent of the Hungarians via social media.
The Prime Minister’s Twitter page was launched recently but already has more than 86 thousand followers.
