1 May: Public transport changes significantly in Budapest, agglomeration
On the 1 May holiday, this Wednesday, public transport in Hungary will change significantly with trains, buses and HÉVs running differently. MÁV and Volánbusz ask you to check the public transport schedule before departure. They also warn that it is advisable to buy tickets in advance, as well as to use the ticket machines, online ticket purchase on Elvira or the MÁV app.
Train timetables
Trains will run according to the public holiday timetable on 1 May. Morning and afternoon InterCity trains will run with more carriages than usual. On Elvira, the seat occupancy of a train can be monitored based on ticket sales, so passengers can choose trains with enough seats, Index writes.
Public transport: Volánbus
On Tuesday, 30 April, services will run according to the working and school day timetable, on Wednesday, 1 May, according to the public holiday timetable, and on Thursday, 2 May, again according to the working and school day timetable.
The MÁV Group recalls that department stores and shopping centres will be closed on 1 May, so the services to and from them will operate according to their holiday timetables. In some municipalities, local services may depart differently from the general transport timetable and some services may be diverted during the holiday period. Detailed information is available HERE (in Hungarian).
MÁV-HÉV
On 1 May, HÉV trains will run according to the public holiday timetable, with some services running less frequently. It is recommended not to travel out of habit, but to check departure times in advance. Detailed timetables are available on the BKK and HÉV websites.
