More cross-border trains coming: Up to 12 daily services between Hungary and this neighouring country!

From February, passengers will be able to choose from up to a dozen daily train services between Szeged and Subotica, MÁV announced on Friday.
More trains to Serbia

Passenger rail services on the Szeged–Röszke–Subotica line resumed in November 2023. Since then, five pairs of trains have been operating daily under the joint management of the Hungarian and Serbian railway companies. From 2 February, an additional pair of services will be added to the timetable.
As part of the expanded offer, a new train will depart Subotica at 10:37, arriving in Szeged at 11:57. The return service will leave Szeged at 12:04 and reach Subotica at 13:24. The journey time is approximately one and a half hours, including border control checks.
The reopening of the line two years ago marked a major milestone for Hungary and Serbia, restoring a direct interregional rail connection between Csongrád-Csanád County and the Vojvodina region after a long break.
MÁV trying to encourage public transport between the two countries
According to MÁV Group, the goal is to provide an increasingly attractive, environmentally friendly, reliable, and high-quality service, encouraging more cross-border commuters to choose public transport when travelling between the two countries.
Over the past two years, the number of international journeys on the line has approached 200,000. However, actual usage is significantly higher, as domestic fare-free travel and commuting with national and county passes without crossing the border are also particularly popular.
In 2024, around 88,000 international tickets were sold, while in 2025 this number rose to 106,000. Domestic travel on the line is also becoming increasingly popular, the statement added.
