You can hear people say a lot of things about Budapest, the capital city of Hungary. It is famous for its baths and many unique drinking places as well as about its many beautiful sights to see. Some people believe it is the beautiful and old buildings that are the source of the city’s magic, some believe it is the people. They might be true, but I think there are not many things that can outmatch the beautiful Winter landscape both inside Budapest and both in the outer parts. So today we picked a few stunning images that might make you re-think your next travel location. Here they are:

In my humble opinion, this picture is beautiful it shows you a part of one of the most iconic bridges in Budapest, the ‘Lánchíd’ (Chain Bridge). Although the snowfall might be a little heavy for some, I think the snow magically turns the already beautiful bridge into a splendid scene.

Not to mention the ‘Városliget’ where the snow turned the area near Széchenyi bath into a forest from fairyland, but soon you can see even more pictures about the prettiness of ‘Városliget’.

Something as every day as the tracks of a tram could be improved by so much with only a small snowfall.

I like these two photos the most, they not only show how much more gorgeous the city looks when the snow is covering the rooftops, it was shot from a birds-eye view presenting the viewer even more aspects of the city, but the images were also photographed at or near dusk, so the warm city lights illuminate the streets giving a picture both a little warmness but also a little magical glimmer.

In my opinion, the Hungarian Parliament is one of the most beautiful if not the most beautiful buildings in the entire world. I might seem a little exaggerated, but I am not, I really like it and I think many people would agree with me that at least it is a very spectacular building if nothing else, especially during Winter when it is covered with snow. The photo is also amazing as it shows the Danube as well.

This picture that was shot from the sky looking downwards at Széchenyi Bath in Városliget is amazing, I can see the steam coming from the thermal water and makes me immediately want to jump into it to warm up.

These photos depict Hungary’s proud, the Lánchíd (Chain Bridge) one is from a passenger’s view similar to the first image we picked, but here the snowfall ended and the promenade and road are empty depicting the calmness and coldness of the Winter. The second picture is more interesting, it is a selfie, but the emphasis is rather on the scenery and the place from where the photographer took the photo. The lights of the bridge make it appear like a bridge to fairyland or heaven with the warm lights paving the paths to the Pest side where even more lights are inviting. Because of the interesting angle, the Danube is also very prominent in the picture. Where you can see the sheets of ice floating on top and flowing down with the river wherever it goes. Further contrasting the warm lights of the bridge with a cold and harsh look of the river.

The trains at the Buda mountains and near Virágvölgy stations are a beautiful sight to behold, especially the incredible black steam locomotive that creates a stark contrast with the white snow covering the scenery. When the black smoke slowly turns grey and then gradually white, glueing the scenery and the man-made wonder together.

What did I tell you? I promised more images of the beautiful Winter landscape of Városliget and here you go. The main attraction of Városliget, in my opinion, is the gorgeous Castle of Vajdahunyad. It is even more beautiful in Winter-time, especially with the lights in the second picture.

Here you can see the Széchenyi bath from even higher and now parts of the Capital Circus of Budapest can be seen in the upper middle of the photo. Not only that but in the upper right corner, you can see the construction work of the new wing of Budapest Zoo.

For those who want to try out some activities as well, there is a huge ice rink near Heroes’ Square in Városliget where you can skate encompassed by the lovely scenery of Városliget, the Castle of Vajdahunyad, Heroes’ Square and the beautiful building behind the rink as well. The area is filled up with water and is used by many ‘vízibicikli’ which literally translates to water bycicle. It is a small, usually 2 person boat you can propel by using pedals just like with a bycicle.

This magnificent photo is made in the Castle District of Buda and it is depicting the ‘Halászbástya’ (Fisherman’s Bastion) which is a magnificient place I was there on a shcool trip, but I am looking forward to visit it again soon.

And finally for closing the selection of Winter-time photos, here is an image of Budapest at dusk where the gorgeous building of the Parliament stands out being lit by many warm lights. These lights make the city appear like a shelter from the cold.
